hi
i am rebuilding 91 gsxr rear shock . unfortunetly the inner piston rod is a bit rusty ( has some spots on it) .
if ill use it , the rod will wear oil seals wery fast , so i need to replace it .
i havent found any on ebay , and the prices here ( israel) are crazy . old shock + restoration will cost me +- 750$ .
new oem shock costs 2500$  :cookoo:
there is no one here that can renew the chrome coating.
did anyone tried to  combine gixxer shock with gs shock?

i want to use gs rod in the gixxer shock , is it possible?
does anyone have preassembled gs shock & knows the size of the rod ?

will apritiate any helpfull idea .
thanx
greg

OK GS chrome rod does not have the rebound dial and the valving inside the rod for it. It also may be the wrong dia - not sure here.
I'd just forget the whole rebuilding idea.
The chrome on the rod and in all hydraulic applications is what is called hexavalent chromium. Clueless clowns call it hard chrome or hydraulic chrome or whatever. Then they are easily confused when "Hard Krome" is thrown about as a brand name.
The regular chrome that si done for decorative purposes is bi-valent chrome. Its found on everything that is shiny as well as cheapass tools from china available at your local walmart, Its looks like chrome but is holding on to the base metal - steel with 2 bonds instead of 6 like hexavalent chromium. Hexavalent chromium is very very poisonous to the earth and ground water. The local mom and pop chrome store is smart not to touch it. The simple solution is to swap your whole shock. I'll find one for you if Jhoffy buys that other one.
Cool.
