Is it posseble to remove the cylinder head without having to take out the whole engine from the frame and if so how ?
I checket the top gap between the frame and the engine and I'm not sure ?

According to Kerry's Valve video, it looks like you will be able to.

  • Remove Tank
  • remove breather cover (Black thing on top of Valve cover
  • Remove Valve cover

At that point, I'm sure you can just remove the cylinder head.

Yup, you can disassemble the entire top end with the engine still in the frame.

Yes and no ... I have heard that in some cases you can but you cannot on others ... However if you remove the 3 rear motor mount bolts and let the thing swing down its a snap. then getting it back in is the same way ... just lift with a block of wood and get the rear bolt back in and its in there.
Cool.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I am one of the poor unfortunate souls who cannot remove the head while the engine is mounted in the frame. If I do this trick, won't the engine will drop only about 1/2 at most? Would I need to replace the bolts once I remove them?

Undoing the engine bolts dosent gain much, but it gains enough. You will have to move the wiring and other stuff arround a little bit, and its still a little trickey getting the head out. Just be patient with it and it will come.

I have managed to remove the head from the frame (replaced a valve) and did this without removing the engine or any mounting bolts.  It was a tight squeeze, but it's doable.  Frankly, it was so long ago, I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I certainly don't remember having to remove engine mount bolts.  Hmm. That is a pretty good idea though. It might be a good way to make the job easier if necessary.

Go for it.
