Hey guys,

Can I get some opinions on this?

I checked the level and current state of my engine oil and this is what I saw, do you guys think this needs a change? its been sitting like this for about 6 months (winter time).. and 2 months of riding with it...

I took a picture of the stick... its blurry but its the best I could get  :dunno_white:

On a similar topic, I found that the underside of the engine around the chain area was black from the engine oil i believe, is this normal? or should I investigate more if there is a leak? I dont have any pictures for this one because I just started cleaning it up...

looks clean to me. when in doubt, change it out.

your chain will sling/drip lube all over the underside. it's normal. just make sure you aren't loosing oil from the clutch push rod.

never hurts to change the oil on an air cooled bike, cheap insurance against bigger problems

Ditto...if you're uncomfy with it change it.  Cost $10.

I've always heard it's best to change the oil if it's been sitting a while (such as ALL winter) because of condensation if nothing else.  As others mentioned--cheap insurance.  :thumb:

I could go either way on changing the oil... I'd probably do it sooner rather than later, but it doesn't look like you need to change it right now. As for leaks, I wouldn't worry about a leak near the bottom of the engine that doesn't leave a puddle. Just check the upper bits of the engine every once and a while to make sure there aren't leaks there because often leaking oil will burn off before hitting the ground if the leak is high enough. Also, if you check your oil frequently, like you should, you'll notice any serious leaks right away because your oil level will start dropping faster than it has. If you're worried about a potential leak, just wipe the area reasonably clean with a rag and ride around for a bit. If it is wet with oil when you get back, it is a leak and you should find out where it is coming from but if it is covered in the usual greasy sticky crud from the chain and the road, don't worry about it.
