Crazy bad times.  I'm lucky to still have a job.  I can only hope it lasts.

I know how you feel.
We went from 80k per year to making about 30k.
I just hope we can avoid bankruptcy until I can get back to work or get my disability started.  :dunno_white:

All of you layoffers...I suggest you look into getting in businesses that people can't live without.  Food (origins) and water are the best.  I'm in water.  Water is the best.

It's just something to keep in mind...not everyone needs to buy a new car, not everyone needs to fly a private plane, not every town needs to have each pothole filled, not every dollar needs to be spent...but everyone needs to drink.

Mortuary services, seriously.  Everyone f%$king dies.

TGG: your governor sucks........as a governor.  Sorry.  Is there a market for your job in private sector?

There's a TON of money to be made in clearing out foreclosed properties.  You don't even have to clean, just haul out the big crap plus you generally get to keep/sell the crap you haul out.

I am in the environmental field and there are plenty of jobs but most consulting companies arent hiring right now, infact they are laying off people. I am just going to hang in there, it would be 6 months before anything happens anycase.

I have started my own green company, i'll give it more time now.

With all the lay offs it make me happy knowing that my morgage payment is $55.00 a month.  I can pick up enough pop bottles to make the house payment if i have too.  Times are deffinetly hard right now.

What, for not living beyond his means and adding to the problems caused by all the dumb MFs that do?  :bs:

No dang mortgage at all. Pay as I go, do without if I can't afford it, just have to make sure I can pay the dang taxes on it, and keep it heated somehow.  Pay the credit card off in full every month. So I don't have a million dollar house now worth $200K - big whoop. So my truck is a crappy F150 with 190,000 on it. So I put money I could upgrade to a newer truck (or bike) on into the market as everyone runs away, because that is the time to put money into the market for future gains.

I'm afraid I'd have to say the people that suck are the ones that bought $200K houses for a million dollars because they were sure that they'd be worth a million and a half later on - so sure that they took out loans for half a million to buy crap they didn't need, but they "wanted". And now they have some useless crap, a 200K house, and a million and a half of debt, which they want someone else to pay for.

I love people who kiss their own asses by making this argument.  As you're a self-described "old man," I'm sure you didn't buy your house in cash but paid it off over time, which required a loan.  Had this mess happened when YOU bought YOUR house, you'd be in the same circling toilet bowl as the rest of us.  Having been lucky enough to be born earlier than some, your house may have appreciated less quickly and/or been less inflated than those, but you can't call your luck a virtue.  Some people DID pay what they could afford for a house, but the market was inflated, and when the market deflated they STILL ended up underwater.  Some people bought a new car because the cars were cheap and the credit was cheap, and a 100,000 mile warranty bridged the gap between the price of a new car and a used car effectively.  Having debt doesn't mean living beyond your means, it means havins some faith that things will at least stay as good as they are, and might get better.  Some people put medical bills, and food, and gas on their credit cards because they had to, and never got far enough from an emergency to get rid of those bills.

I own a house I can pay the mortgage on, but I'm not bragging or putting anyone else down.  I'm in the beginning of what should be a lucrative career, but I'm not bragging or putting anyone else down.  I own a car that's paid off and has 198k miles on it, but I'm not bragging or putting anyone else down.  I have some credit card debt from having lost my job TWICE in the last 6 years, but I easily pay those bills every month, and I'm not bragging or putting anyone else down.  I cracked a joke.  Get off your high horse - this is motorcycle site, after all.  You get no points from me.

^^^^^^^ Well said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ lawman

As for me I did not live beyond my means and my house was 56k not 200 and mine and the wifes cars have over 100k on them.
I do have plastic debt but it's due too me being out of work and that's not my or the companys fault.
It's the fault of a freaking crack head my mama that was too into fighting with her crack head baby daddy to see the damn red light and ran me over. I have been out of work due too that sence June and still don't know if I will be able to go back to work yet.
Right now all my bills are paid. I don't know how but they are. So I am not one of them who want others to foot the bill for what I have.
I will be more that happy to get back to work ASAP but I just don't see it.
So congrats on not having a house payment but others do and others are in a bad spot right now and a lot by no fault of their own.
Have a great day and I hope things go well and you can pay your taxes and stuff but if not then there is still room in the boat for you.

Well you're pompous, and you might be a jerk.  But that's less of a vice than intolerance in my book.

Well, I would have loved to have even gotten a shot at owning a home. But, circumstances happen. I mean really what are the chances of being diagnosed with a significant heart problem at 21? I had no credit card debt paid off all I've ever gotten but hospital bills! When I got laid off from my hospital job I went two months without health insurance one single hospital stay put me $100,000 in debt. I will never ever be able to pay that off. I lost a great security job because of that. Why should I be punished because I got sick? I finally got disability after three years but am constantly looked down upon by those who think that anybody that get something from the government doesn't deserve it or they believe that I get so much money that I don't have to worry. Well, granted I'm grateful for what I get it's not enough though and I don't live above my means the only thing extra is the bike payment. but, don't I deserve to have something or should I be damned to living on the street? I do try to work but my last shift put me in the hospital for a week but I get back up and try again. I would love the chance to try and earn my own home but I know it will never happen because of the hospital bill and now my school loan defaulted so I can't even go back to try and find something I can do with heart failure and Chron's disease.

So, please don't judge people it doesn't help it usually hurts more. Esp those you mis-judge!
