Checking valves, noticed engine VERY hard to turn over

When I was turning my engine via socket wrench it would stick at this point EVERY time and required a tremendous effort to turn. It was almost like it was getting stuck. The first time I measured it took over 40ft lbs to turn it. Each subsequent turn it would stick but was not as tough to 'get over'. What I noticed at this position is either A) the right side rear intake valve is pushing down or B) the left side exhuast valve was opening. Could those springs be sticky or something? FYI plugs were pulled.

I was going to say compression, but if the plugs were off, I have no idea...

Motor gets tight and loose in spots.
However That advancer head has a pin on the crank that is keeping it on and if that breaks,. kiss your ass goodbye. I know, I broke it on a crank that was toast anyway, but you better not bust that pin on a good motor.
Put it in gear, pull the plugs and turn the back tar.
In fact mu nighthawk was so hard to turn over, I pushed it up and down my driveway, I had all sorta crap in the chambers like penetrating oil, acrb cleaner, gas, diesel, oil ... over the months I had been working on it. This pushing session splattered my face, head, and the roof of my house and driveway with veritable petroleum by products. Anyway, 6th gear, turn the rear tar.

Wait.....WHAT?! What part is the advancer head? I don't see a pin anywhere. Why are you trying to freak me out!  :mad:

The piece you're turning is the advancer, and the pin is on the other end of it, the end by the crank.
