Getting a key made?

Hey all,

Anyone know if there are any places other than a Suzuki dealership that can make a Key for my GS (just picked it up today)?  The lady I bought it from only had one key for it, and I would definately like a spare or two.

Places that I can get house and car keys made locally are hardware stores and Home Depot / Lowes type places.  Any chance they will be able to make a key?  What about an auto-parts place?

Can these even be made at a dealer or another store, or do they have to order a replacement from Suzuki?

Thanks
Andy

Sorry guys,

I looked in the archives and found what I needed to know.

I guess I am just too excited about getting my GS500E today.

If you have the little numeric tag you can order one through a dealer, or try one of the key-cutters, I think they use a Volvo blank (in UK anyway)
Black Beemer  - F800ST.
In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Where are you in OC?  I got my keys made there in 97.  I don't remember exactly where, either of ACE hardware store in Irvine or a key shack right in the middle of a parking lot not far from South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa.

I broke my only key at that time, took the two pieces to the place, and got
2 new ones made.  So I guess just go around and ask.

Congrats on the bike!
So how cold were you while riding today?  :nana: I know you had to ride it today.

I did find a Suzuki blank at White Jones (an Ace Hardware store) in Anderson. I also picked up a blank from the dealer and had both cut at the same time. Don't remember the costs. I don't know of a dealer that cuts keys.

Do all Suzuki's use the same blank?  :dunno:
Common sense in not very common.

Actually, I didnt ride it at all today.  I only rode it about .10 miles last night when I got it home, just up the street to the end of the cul-de-sac and back in to my garage.

This is why I didnt ride:

No tag
No insurance
No helmet
No jacket
No pants
No gloves

Lots of things to get still before I can ride it!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully I will be able to pick most of that gear up at the motorcycle show in ATL next weekend.

Hi-T

I went to Sears- they have a little key making area.  The lady there looked around and came up with a Datsun car spare.  It cost three dollars and works perfectly... also a nice theft deterent if you ever misplace your keys ( it has datsun printed on it)...  I ride an '01- if that makes a difference.
