bike troubles...

Well I am continuing to have carb issues with the GS, spent most of the ride home from fuel on friday with only 1 cyclinder firing and constant stalling. The second cylinder decided to kick in as i was going around a corner too, almost went very badly. Sounds like its beyond my level to fix now, which means I need to pay someone to fix it which means I may not have the money for the track. we'll see....

it may be electric, don't blame the carbs right off. wiggle/ jiggle everything like plug wires, see what happens.

Are you sure this is a carb issue? If you have an intermittent problem with one cylinder, it could also be an electrical issue. You should probably fix it before you ride more too, as you found out on that corner, it could be very dangerous to ride a bike with one cylinder failing at random. Also, it can't be too good for the bike to only be running on one cylinder in general. Before you go tearing your carbs apart, verify that you have good spark to both cylinders. Also try swapping coils. If this stuff doesn't help, mail your carbs to Buddha and check your valves while you're waiting for him to mail it back to you. Buddha doesn't charge much, so if the $50 or so he charges you is the difference between going and not going to the track, can you really afford to go in the first place?

i took the carbs apart and cleaned them, put them back in and it worked perfectly for a few days. then it got bad again. the bikes at the shop now, but before I took it I checked the plugs (they were fine) and the wiring. so we'll see what they discover i guess.

Did you trim the ignition wire and re-attach it to the coil like I told you?

no because i am not very mechanically inclined. trimming wires scares me  :icon_eek:

Your carbs go bad after few days of running. Tank has rust then or you're getting water in it or your area has very very bad gasoline.

sounds like fun no matter what. the guys at the shop will take care of me, family friends, I'll see what they come up with.

Tristan, make sure you have spark when the one cylinder isn't running, and trimming 1/4 inch of ignition wire and re-attaching it to the coil is as easy as trimming your toenails, or do you have someone else do that too?  :D

Someone has just had a similar problem........

Some deep searching and, thank you Kerry, I found an old thread where you had to replace the black four wire connector from the left side under the fairing.  I cranked the bike, jiggled that connector and the idle shot up and it was running strong.

Ay! I did pull out and disassemble my old engine and put a new one in. I do do most of it.
