Hey guys and gals, I was just doing a random browse and due to having problems with battery etc I have considered buying a new one, and one of the ideas I came up with was why not try and get a sealed battery, now I know that there are no batteries that have the same dimensions as ours and that are seald and I know that someone has put up that you can use one from walmart and fit it on its side but if I am right I think i might have found a slightly better alternative. lookie :D

There is a direct fit sealed battery for both the GS500 E and F and it's quite a bit cheaper than the one you found.  I've had it for over a year and am completely satisfied.  Surprised noone else mentioned it.

My 90 GS500E has spread itself across the nation.

£75??  :o

I will tell you what I would do........

Yuasa and Varta are regarded by many as the best makes of battery you can buy and for less than half that amount you can buy a YB10-LB2 from either maker that will drop straight in. Keep it topped up, fully charged, avoid exposing it to the cold for long periods and it will last for years. My Varta is in year 7 now and still going strong.

Then put the rest of the cash towards a motorcycle specific tender-charger   :thumb:

I just put one of these in my bike, and so far I'm satisfied with it. Ordered it on a Monday morning, and it was waiting for me when I got home on Thursday. Ten minutes on my Batterytender Jr and it was fully charged & ready to go.

This battery is pretty compelling.  It's about the same price as a conventional battery and it comes with acid!  :thumb:  If I needed a new battery I'd go with the Scorpion.  There are two advantages of going with a sealed battery.  You don't have to add water of course, and you don't have to worry about the drain tube which can leak acid on your frame and eat-off the paint next to the rear brake lever and footpeg.  I had to sand and re-paint my frame in that area because of it.  When I bought the bike I thought it was from gravel or the rider's boot, but after looking more closely, I could tell they were not scrapes.  I touched it, put my finger to my tongue, and sure enough, it was acid droplets that ate up the paint.
