I just wanted to drop a post as it is a sad day for me.  Please do not drink and drive.  I know none of you would do this, but I know it can happen from time to time.

Saturday after a spring training Cubs game my buddy and I were riding back to his place.  We got out of the parking lot that still had a many of tailgater's in it, and got going down the street a few miles under the speed limit and a guy whipped out of a parking lot onto the main drag we were riding and hit my buddy.

He is currently in the ICU in an induced coma.  He has a broken lower leg and the bone went through the skin, a few broken ribs, and they believe a concussion.  Thank god for helmets! (see previous thread about helmets where I said I only wear them on the highway   

The guy blew a .15.

The cop was talking about bringing him up on attempted vehicular manslaughter.

Thanks in advance for your support.  I am pretty shakin up about the whole affair and haven't even looked at my bike for a day.

i did as a stupid teenager. i haven't since i got a little smarter. i won't after thinking about the number of families out there just doing their thing like us.

Sorry to hear this. Hope your friend fully recovers. PLEASE don't let this guy off. He really belongs in jail. Press criminal charges and then sue him in civil court.

I'm sooo sorry. I will pray your friend recovers fully.

I think honestly that alcohol should not be served at these events and such. Or if they do you drop your keys off and mandatory cab ride. I don't care if it is only one drink it still impairs you.

Man thats horrible.  I was stupid and got busted in college but I luckily didn't hurt anyone.  Had I kept it up I'm sure it was a matter of time.  But that was an eye opener to me, and I have become that guy at parties that will take keys forcefully if necessary, and if that still doesn't work (see: guy is bigger than me) then I call cops as well.

I was dumb, and paid for it.  I refuse to let someone else go out and kill someone after I learned the lesson.

When I worked at Pleasure Island and we knew a drunk guy way going to try and drive we would surrond the car on our bicycles and turn on the strobe lights. For some reason it makes people sick as hell they start yacking and fall over in the car. If they are determined (as in get key in ignition) radioed Orange County and they got to go to the 33rd St. Bed and Breakfast with a free ride and some shiny bracelets!
