I purchased my 2nd GS last summer and have slowly been working on it.  I just finished repainting it black.  I sanded, primed and painted the front fender, tank, side covers and grab bar.  I went with truck bed liner black and I think it turned out pretty nice.  It's not perfect, as it is a rattle can job, but I am really happy with the way it turned out.  It's not completely put back together as you can tell that the gas cap isn't back on, but you get the idea.

list of what I have done so far
-fenderectomy
-pro gel grips
-superbike bars
-third eye bar-end mirrors
-rejet
-lunchbox
-front micro turn signals
-rear license plate turn signals
-paint job
-National Cycle F-18 flyscreen

list of stuff still left to do
-paint rims (black)
-dual angel eyes headlights
-new tires
-new EBC brake pads
-new Yoshimura slip-on exhaust
-red gauge lights
-15t sprocket

This is how it looked when I purchased it.

This is how it looks now.

I don't know how they broke the tail.  I hope it wasn't from trying to wheelie.

Big improvement...my '92 was that same crap color scheme  :flipoff: I loved the purple, but hated the decals!  Looks nice!

It is pretty easy to break that part of the tail when dropping the bike... Both my GSs have been dropped and both of them have damage right around the same place yours did. One of them is missing one of the slots that connects the side bit to the little center thing and the other is missing one of the posts that holds the side piece on. Judging from my two bikes, it seems about as easy to damage the tail section as it is to dent the tank when dropping the bike.

Nice paint job though!

Those original paint schemes are GS500 classic ( purple especially ) I kinda like it  makes the bike look like a toy

Reminds me of 90's GSXR line:

Your bike was so cute before in purple and pink... now it looks like a gas grill!  Nice job!  :thumb:

I was checking out 15t sprockets and saw these 2 at bikebandit.

Will the weight difference of the Sunstar Alloy sprocket and the stock sprocket mean anything?  Is it worth the extra $5 to get the alloy instead of just getting a steel JT sprocket?

jeremy_nash

as far as I am concerned, it is worth the 5 dollars to go with the steel.  I had an afam rear alloy sprocket, and it didn't last 2k miles.  maybe mine was faulty, but it wazs enough to turn me away from alloy

I agree with Jeremy.  I wouldn't stray from steel sprockets unless the mfg. guaranteed their sprocket is tough and will outlast steel.  I bought a 17-tooth sprocket, steel.

How difficult was it to paint it with the truck bed liner?  Are there any specific instructions on how to do it?   I'm looking to do the same with my bike (it's a fugly teal color)  I'm looking for something cheap and easy to change the color

tripleb

it was cake.  I sanded off all of the clear coat and color, washed it, primed it, sanded it again lightly and sprayed the bed liner on.

Sweet!  What brands did you use?  What sandpaper (fine or rough?)  I'm just really kinda unfamiliar with this stuff, so the more details the better!  And thanks, this will really help me get my bike looking good.
