Ok so i was really worried about working on this motorcycle.  But i finally manned up and got my tools out and decided to start with the front sprocket change.  It was so easy i thought i must have done something wrong.. it CANT BE THAT EASY!!!       But alas... it was that easy.  I even had to tighten the chain because of the exchange and YES IT WAS THAT EASY!!.  wow.  I am psych to do the rest of these upgrades that requires me to take apart the motorcycle.

So now having 14T sprocket rocks.  Its a totally different bike. I mean this bike was somewhat tamed before.  Now its a BEAST!!!.  No horsepower went up due to this mod but you can really really feel the difference. It just takes off.  I am riding on Hwy going about 70 at 7.5rpm and i want to pass.. with just a flick of the wrist i am zooming forward. No need to do any type of shifting down. None.. its an awesome feeling.   This happens at any gear actually.. just very responsive.. when you flick that wrist you will feel urself needing to hang on cause this baby is zipping forward.  Love it love it love it.. 

  Yes, the 14t sounds fun, but is it too much for freeway riding, does it rev too high at 70/75MPH? Just thinking of a 14t at this point but would like more imput on how it is on freeway! WHen you put the 14t on did you need a new chain or were you able to adj.

no need for new chain. just need to adjust.. however.. my adjustment before the sprocket change was somewhat in the middle.. i had to adjust the chain so it was only about 1 mark left before it was all the way out.  so if you have an older chain you may need to buy a new one as you wont be able to adjust far enough. 

as per hwy riding and rpm.. i will update when i get home.. i will take note on where the rpm is in reference to my speed.  i slab it to work everyday.. rpm is definitely up there.

so riding home on the hwy...  at 7rpm i was going 80mph...  at 8rpm i was at 90mph and at 9rpm i was at 97-98mph.  These are not true mph but what is on my gauge.. just fyi.. didnt have my gps with me to verify true mph.

Was that indicated mph?  if so, thats not too bad i guess.  its about 1k higher than stock at those speeds isnt it?

OK i'm going to buy a 14 & 15t  and try them to see what I like, but where is the best place to buy them and what are the part numbers for a 08 GS 500?  I can't seem to find these sprockets for an 08 will a 07 sprocket work?

Crazy kids..... GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

According to first ever GS500 road test the engine speed at 60 mph in 6th gear is 4730 rpm and I've indicated close to that on 2 GSs, some things never change.

So, 4730x16/14= 5406 rpm in 6th with a 14T front sprocket.

Wanna know how that is on the freeway on your bike?

4730x961/851= 5341 rpm in 5th gear with std 16T front.

Just leave it in 5th gear and try it out.  I used to leave mine in 5th on the freeways when riding with big twin friends to match their roll-ons.
