Hey guys... Im back working at the motorcycle shop and there are Tooooo many good deals coming in on larger bikes so as sad as I will be, I need to get rid of both my GS500's

This one is the 95. It is in in GREAT shape. a few scuffs on the tank and side cover. NEVER DOWN other than hitting a flower pot (minor scuff) and it fell in the back of a truck once and scuffed the tank and my wife scuffed the front fender... again nothing big. It runs like new has new less than 400 mile Avon Road Riders, 89 clipons, fenderectomy, shorter signals, r1 tail light, dual buell headlights, new DID chain and front 15t sprocket... both have less than 200 miles.

It has been greatly cared for, oil changed every 2-3 K and when I bought it w/ 180 miles on it in 2005 =) I have a clear PA title in hand with me as the original owner. I have all the OEM stuff I took off (head light, signals, sprocket mirrors etc..)

The Bike is in PA 15906 I may deliver for a small fee in 100 Mile radius.

I have an offer of $2200 but the guy needs time to come up w/ the cash... I dont have time  :icon_mrgreen: so GS Twin Members $2000 Firm and I assure you you will be VERY happy with this GS. I have tons of extras like new plugs, new side (suzuki) cover.. got scuffed against a flowerpot) some other misc. parts as well as a CD containing all manuals (Factory service, Clymer, Owners manual (original paper owners manual and printed and binded Clymer manual as well, and much more GS500 related stuff)

YOU WILL LOVE THIS BIKE! It is as clean as new and runs GREAT!

Now pics... (taken before new tires and chain)

Tank scratch:

I hate to see her go guys but she will treat you well. This is by far the nicest 95 GS out there... Probably nicer than most newer ones as well...

I hope to sell ASAP! As I said, I may deliver to a small 100mile or so radius for cost of gas and a few bucks...

Nice ride, Scott.  Too bad I don't need another one.  You don't live too far away, either.  Damn, I put that many miles on my bike since last June!
V&H pipes, K&N drop-in, seat by KnoPlace.com, 17/39 sprockets, matching grips, fenderectomy, short signals, new mirrors - 10 scariest words: "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help!"

OK... I have had 4 offers and all are leaving me hanging... Either they need time to come up w/ $ and want me to hold it or have me look up all kinds of shipping info or taking extra pics and then not responding...

I would like to sell this bike ASAP. w/o playing games. If you are interested PM me. This is one hell of a deal on one of the cleanest GS's around.

Scott,

This isn't a good first post, but I feel it's necessary to publicly respond to that.  I'm not playing games and I'm rather bothered by your statement.

I own a 2005 GS500F and I've been looking for my girlfriend's second motorcycle; I registered on these forums specifically to do this and to join this positive community of enthusiasts.

I live in Upstate NY, which is about 6 hours away from you.  I have been asking you for details and clarifications, which I would consider completely appropriate for anyone interested in a serious transaction, and because I don't want to waste a 12 hour trip to discover something bad that could have been determined remotely.  I am detail oriented and I need to be assured that I am not wasting my time.

Some of my questions include asking for a justification of why the odometer reads 3947.4 but your post says 7k (you said they weren't recent pictures).  Therefore, I have asked you several times for some current pictures (you haven't provided them).

I asked for the VIN number several times since April 2nd, you provided it on April 6th after business hours, and I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with the PA DMV this morning verifying that they're not stolen (that's good).

I was interested in buying both the GS500s you had for sale and had discussed a package deal.  However, the details on http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=47301.0 - the "89 GS FOR SALE" are quite vague; you provided pictures of a whole bike, then said that it's in pieces.  I asked for the VIN and pictures of the pieces (I wanted to know what I was getting into and wanted to see if I had to rent a vehicle to transport it).  You provided a VIN of a 1990 GS500E (different than the 1989 as described in the title) - this discrepancy right there is enough to scare me off.  Additionally, despite several assertions that you would, you have still not provided pictures of the 1990 bike in its current state.  I never asked for shipping information (your post clearly says that you will not ship it).

I was waiting on the VIN number verification and updated pictures before putting down any deposit because I am protecting myself, and I would expect anyone else to do the same.  That's not playing games, that's being fiscally responsible.

I have the cash in hand and I consider this a serious investment.  I even got a quote from Enterprise on a truck rental for transport on Saturday in anticipation of validating the VINs and getting the photos of the motorcycles in their actual conditions.

You consider a valid requests for information on a long-distance transaction to be "playing games"?  Your reluctance to provide the information requested and the discrepancies between what you initially describe and what you detailed later in private messages are very troubling.

Tell me why I shouldn't walk away right now, because I'm quite serious about this, my tolerance for this back-and-forth is wearing very thin, and publicly disparaging a serious buyer is tacky at best.

First post - well, congradulations. Its fine, and it was decent with what you were saying.
Good luck to both of you ... and scott_PA_GS is an old timer who'se hooked me up with several deals ... I'm sure you'd be happy with the bike and the transaction.
Essentially I am standing up for him, at the same time do acknowledge what you have mentioned here as something that is 100% normal and valid.

Buddha,

Thanks, I appreciate both the welcome and for your vouching for scott_PA_GS; that's significant.  I also saw that he has a high post count here and has a number of positive (and no negative) ratings on previous tradings through this site; this is why I'm waiting for a response instead of just writing it off.

Best regards,

Hi HohlerMann and Buddha and Scott,

I also am a longtime member of this board and I think all of these points are valid.
I'd ask just as many questions because I wouldn't want to arrive and find things aren't the way they were promised.
So I can understand all of HohlerMann's questions and detail requests.
At the same time, e-mail and board posting is not a great communications medium. There's no context. You can't get the nuances of a conversation.
I hope you guys have or will call each other to talk about this stuff one to one.
I am sure you can work it out.
Skepticism on both sides is good and smart.
But I also know Scott from this board and he is a good guy.
I am sure the bikes are what he says they are and that if you both reach an agreement, it will work out well for both of you.
So keep communicating -- including by phone -- and you can resolve these issues.
Best wishes and welcome to the board, HohlerMann.

Yours,
Trwhouse

You know, I talk to the guy and dont ask nothing ... I am very lax ... I however get burned a lot. Maybe hohlermann should put a detailed list ... I check the bike out, but my read of the seller is sometimes so far off, its nearly useless. I ignore it, because its never accurate.
Anyway The recent GR I got seems to be good and acting up the exact same way he said it would. So I guess I picked a good guy to buy from.

Hohler man...
The post was not directed at you... You are not the only one who responded. I understand you wanting the VINS and as promised you got them..

However I dont understand the need to check if they are stollen seeing as I told you I have both titles clear in my name... One of them that I am the original owner ??? Cant have a stollen bike with a title in your name ??? Atleast I dont see how... anyway,

I couldn't get pics of the other bike because its in the basement of the other side of my home and I have no electric in there rightnow.. I was waiting for today in the day light to try and get them...

Regardless... Sorry if you thought I was being a jerk..

The 95 is SOLD.. to another buyer from NY State.

and I will be keeping my project so I can remain part of this site forever  :D I never wanted to get rid of either GS, but I got cruiser feaver =)

Thanks for all the stand up help guys it means allot. I love this forum and I am glad I will still have a GS, although not as nice as my 95.

scottpA_GS,

First, congratulations on making the sale!

In response to your question about why I would bother checking; let me put it this way... same as riding a motorcycle, I operate under the assumption that others are not actively looking out for my best interests, so I act carefully, defensively and responsibly.  I've had a guy insist that the title was completely clear and it turns out their was a lien on it; I didn't know until I called the DMV.  You told me that both titles were clear, but I didn't know that for a fact.  Regardless of how much someone says you can trust them, I consider the due diligence of verification an integral part of any transaction.  I've never bought or put a deposit on a vehicle without checking the VIN first.

Nothing personal.

Sure, that's a very constructive suggestion.  I'm at work right now, but in the near future I can write something up about my opinions on how to best protect yourself and present - for both sellers and buyers - including the verification methods, verbiage of the bill of sale, etc.

In the meantime, the AMA has a nice checklist.  It doesn't precisely apply to online transaction, but it's a solid basis.

Best regards to all and thanks for the welcome,
HohlerMann

Oh mechanically I am nothing short of genius. I look at it, hear the guy and know what is busted. In fact I even know that on the phone. One time I went to Richmond Virgina, over 400 miles to buy a non running bike, only to work on it, start it, test ride it and get it on my truck all in front of the guy.

Took a clean well jetted carb and K&N and tested it in 20 mins. A bike that hadn't run in 2 years. He said it had fresh oil but that was it. Yea I took a good battery too.

That is all fine, the people, title, what was done when and why ... I am lost. People lie to me, bikes do not, they sing like a bird at the sight of me, they know I'll get them back and running. They call me the "bike whisperer".

Cool.
