I finally installed my new K&N air filter drop in with the restrictor ring and the longer screws that come with it. Pretty easy but i didnt take the gas tank off, just removed two screws and propped it up enough to get a shorty philips head screwdriver in there....its always the last screw thats a pain in the ass....why is this? Murphy's Freekin' Law ..? I hate that Murphy guy...anyway....It sounds pretty good, a drop louder i think....and i could swear there's like 1-2 more HP..or is this
in my brain like a "placebo" affect...you know like adding a sticker adds 5 HP or something like that....anyone ever notice this?   I am correct that no re-jetting is necessary, yes? It seemed to run fine afterwards.

Cars are supposed to have 3% HP gain from these filters, why not a bike right?

Glad to hear!!  You should be fine with the restrictor installed...though the GS is a bit lean from the factory so it never hurts to rejet a bit

I run hare scrambles on a 450R and I can tell the difference in HP when the filter gets dirty.  So I wouldn't doubt it if you do notice a bit extra oomph.

But as for the sticker thing, cmon man, stickers suck.  Even if I had the baddest car / bike / atv around, I wouldn't advertise it.

Dude stickers make it go faster!  I mean a NOS sticker on a Civic will take at least 1 sec off of your 0-60, and as an added benefit you will suddenly become attractive to women...

Anyway, Flynlo how old was the paper filter?  You might be getting getting an hp boost, as Hawk996 suggested, because of a cleaner filter.  I would think it wouldn't just be the filter because that would mean you would have more airflow which the point of the restrictor is to prevent.  I cars probably get a small boost straight away because with fuel injection they can tweak the fuel for the amount of air and carbs don't until you rejet.

I did the same thing, propped the tank up and took the filter out with a shorty screwdriver.  None of my screws were obstructed or hard to remove.  I didn't have a wiring anchor on one of the screws like the manual says.  What a stupid place to anchor wiring.

I have a K&N filter in my Neon.  Didn't change the mileage or increase power.  I think it's an economy move more than anything else.  You can wash it, spray it, and put it back in rather than buying filters.
