People are IDIOTS, this girl is trying to sell me a mint 2005 Suzuki Busa for $3000. The asking price was not clear in the ad so I emailed her and asked the price.

Check out this "steal" copy and pasted from my email:

Hi, the bike is still available, destination charges are included in the final price. My bike price is $2999  as you've probably already seen on my CL ad, I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible. few words about the bike: is in great shape, no need for additional repairs what so ever, no engine problems, oil changed properly, only 2950 miles, including helmet & jacket. I have a clear title for it. I will only conclude the transaction through ebay for our own protection. they act as a neutral third party. If you are interested please get back to me and I shall explain to you the process. thanks. Ashley

Then I asked her if I could come and look at the bike, here is her response:

Hi, the bike is located in San Diego , destination charges are included in the final price, which means that the shipping is included. Anyway, I don't have a problem if you want to pick up the bike but first of all I want to tell you that I am currently on a trip for UNICEF.that is why I chose to sell my bike over the internet and suggested using ebay for completing this deal. I've already included the bike into ebay vehicle purchase protection, so I will sell ONLY through this. If you want to buy the bike , I can give you a detailed description of the ebay vehicle purchase protection. Thanks, Ashley

Yea, she works with UNICEF, therefore I should trust her completely.  The cashiers check is in the mail, what a great deal.  I can get an $8000 Busa for $3000 shipped for free to Minneapolis.  I am all over this.

I am keeping her on the hook a little while longer.  Maybe I'll tell her that I am going to be in San Diego next week on a trip for the Diplomatic Council or for Immigration and Naturalization and have cash in hand.

Actually I did email her back, I told her that I am still very interested and that I would like her to explain the "process" to me.  I can't wait for a response.

The Buddha

No, tell her you are in La Jolla and can drive up and pick up the busa at anytime.
Cool.

Ahh, this is a common craigslist scam. I actually had the same exact email from a guy in Denver about a truck I wanted to buy for a "great deal"

That was fast.  Apparently this is how the "process" works:

Hi, here is a detailed description of the ebay vehicle purchase protection. regarding the payment, you will be instructed to deposit the money to an ebay account. they will hold and insure your money until receipt of the bike in good condition. that is how their buyer protection policy works. as far as the seller concerns, I will be glad to know that ebay has the possession of the money during the delivery period. that is my insurance. as soon as I will have the confirmation from ebay that the funds have been deposited into their account, I can ship you the bike (or you can pick it up, I'll give you the directions). you will be given a 3 days inspection period. if you decide to hold the bike , then you will have to authorize ebay to release the funds to me, and the transaction will be completed.
If you wish to proceed with the purchase, provide me your full name and address to initiate the deal through ebay right away. Aslo your ebay ID. Thanks, Ashley

Sure, I will give you my SS# and my paypal password, wtf while I am at it you might as well have my credit card and bank account numbers.  The part I don't get, Ashley (sweet little thing) "instructs me" to deposit the money into an ebay account, is this a fake account?  How can these scammers go through the real ebay and rip people off?

Adam0431

I kinda wondered the same thing when I was looking to buy a truck. The person even gave me a VIN for the right vehicle, but then I googled the phone number and sure enough it came up from other people reporting scams

I think I figured it out.  Ebay and Paypal do not act as a escrow account ever.   So once you deposit your money into the scammers account your had.  The only action that you have after the fact is to go through paypal or ebay insurance and try to recoup your money.  But ebay and paypal will probably find a loop hole of some sort and will not refund your money.  In this Busa case expically, the bike is not even listed on ebay and ebay does not accept money for transactions like this.  When you buy something off ebay the seller has allready paid the fees to list the item.  Ebay has nothing to do with money changing hands after that.

I wish I had more time to totally screw with all the scammers I run across.  On average I get 10 emails a week from people claiming to have funds that they need to get out of their country or that I have won the European Lottery.   Check out this website, some of the things these people do to scammers is really funny.  One guy even scammed the scammer and got him to pay $300 for some BS fee.  Granted 2 wrongs don't make a right but it is still funny and the more time the scam baiter takes from the scammer the less time he has to rip off some unknowing fool who thinks all their dreams are going to come true.

Nice, I took Buddha's advice and told her that I was local and had cash in hand.  This is what I got back:

Hi, If you look closer to my emails you will find out that I am currently on a trip for UNICEF until 1st of June, that's why I chose to sell my bike over the internet and suggested using ebay for completing this deal. . As i said before, as soon as I will have the confirmation from ebay that the funds have been deposited into their account,  you can pick it up, I'll give you the directions.  If you wish to proceed with the purchase, provide me your full name and address to initiate the deal through ebay right away. Aslo your ebay ID. Thanks, Ashley

So again I replied:  Yes, I understand you are busy until June.  That is fine, there has to be someone here in southern California that I can pay for the bike and then how they get the money to you is your business.  This way I can hold on to the title to until you get back to properly sign it over to me. Thanks, Don

She has to be loosing faith in this transaction, but what really sucks:  I she scams on person a week for $3000 that is over $150,000 a year.  Pretty nice living screwing hard working people out of their money.

Watch out people, there are even risks as the seller on Craigs List.  I listed a 4 wheeler about a year ago and the asking price was $4500.  I received an email the same day from a guy who wanted to know if I would accept a cashiers check for $5000 and then pay his friend $500 to deliver it to him.  Not even thinking he was serious I said sure, that would not be a problem.  Sure enough, two days later a cashiers check for $5000 shows up in the regular mail, return address New Jersey.  So the next day I deposit the check and told my account manager that I thought something funny was up with the check.  She  said not to worry about it just don't spend any of the money until I hear from her.

The next day the guy gives me a call and says "I see you deposited my check, good I will have my friend come pick up the ATV in a day or two."  Not knowing weather or not the check would clear or not by then I said fine.  7:00 pm the next day dude's friend (probably the guy himself) shows up with a pickup truck, knocks on the door and says "I am here to pick up my friends ATV".    I told him sorry but my bank did not confirm that the check had cleared and that he would have to wait until my account manager verified the funds were in the account.  The guy was irate and said that he drove over 100 miles to get here and he demands that I let him take the ATV or he is going to call the cops.  I said fine, I have to get my keys to the unattached garage.  I close the door, go into the bedroom and grab the nine and tell my wife to call the police.  I went back out with the guy like I had my keys now and told him that my wife just called the cops and that he needed to get off my property.  He couldn't get out of here fast enough, he allmost hit my wifes car peeling out of the driveway.  I got his plate number and the check never did clear, but I never did hear anything about it again.

Pathetic.  Armed with a plate number and a forged cashiers check I couldn't even get this guy.  To my knowledge the police never even brought him in for questioning.  That would have been great.  I could have paid some scum bag $500 to take my ATV off my hands.

Really Nice, I don't even know how to go about busting this person.  :police:  I just ran her IP address and got her name.  She has bikes listed all over the country for way below book value.  Beware of:

Man, are you trying to screw me on my new Busa? lol

Go for it.  The email address is map1pw@msn.com

I think we should just flood this B with emails...

Tell him your Paypal has been hacked before, so you only deal in cash.  Get his address to send him a "cash payment", but send him an old water-heater through COD.  Or a briefcase full of concrete.

I like it  :icon_mrgreen:  but he / she wont give me the street address until I make the deposit.  Here are her latest emails:

HER: my ebay ID is "jworden51". in order to register our transaction to ebay vehicle purchase protection provide me your full name and address to initiate the deal through ebay right away. Aslo your ebay ID. Thanks, Ashley

ME: Sounds good.  I can't wait to get this bike.  Give me your ebay id and I will forward the money immediately.  Thanks, Don

HER: Hi, If the bike is not like in my description or is not run property, ebay will refund you in full amount. If you wish to proceed with the purchase, provide me your full name and address to initiate the deal through ebay right away. Thanks, Ashley

ME: Ok, that sound reasonable.  What is your ebay ID and I will forward the money, but you are offering a full refund if the bike is not as stated right?  Thanks, Don

HER: Hi, the bike is in my house garage and after you will deposit the money at ebay, my mother will come at my house to give you the bike . My mother lives at 350 miles from my house and she is 68 years old.....that's why I need some insurance and you must deposit the money to ebay. As you know ebay is the biggest worldwide sale website and they offer safe and fast deals....if you don't trust ebay, how can I trust you to give my house address without any insurance??
as soon ebay will confirm me the payment, you will meet my mother at my home address and close the deal. thanks, Ashley

Easy.  Tell him you don't believe him because you're the one with the money.  If he wants it, he'll have to trust you.  Otherwise, you're not trusting someone who says their 68 yr old grandma can trailer a bike and ride 350 miles.  Tell him it makes you sad, because you really wanted that bike, blah blah blah.  He'll cave.

Or, tell him you're simply scared of Ebay.  Tell him you're scared that somebody will buy it before you do.  Cut and paste something off of the Time-Cube website.  Have fun with it.
It's not like he's gonna leave you alone.

But, don't give the guy your ebay ID or bother making up a new one.  He's just trying to bully you; they all do the same thing.  Just stay cool and see how much abuse he'll take.

Hawk996

I'm done, my last email to Ashley:

Ebay does not offer an escrow service like you are describing.  There is no good reason to sell a vehicle like this other than to scam someone.  Why wouldn't you just list it on ebay?  By the way an 2005 Busa in good condition is worth $8000 plus.  So you are playing into peoples greed, smart.

If you are legit then you have nothing to worry about.  If you are not, then your ads will be gone in a couple of hours.  Either way, somebody is going to be looking very closely at your business.

Congratulations, you have been reported to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), to the Federal Trade Commission (spam@uce.gov), the MN state attorney general, the CA state attorney general, the Florida state attorney general, ebay and paypal, MSN, backpages and craigslist.

Good luck with all your bikes in Florida Miami / Dade Ashley Lynn Bogle.  I hope you are making a good living scamming people out of their hard earned money.  By the way your IP address is 65.55.116.107 hostname blu0-omc-s32.hotmail.com

I also have put your ads and emails on several different forums so these good people don't fall victum to your scams.

People like you are the scum of the earth...

Your welcome,

Online scams are big business.  This one is pretty small compared to some others.
