Jetting?

Yes I know there are a million topics on this, but it's much easier to just post a new one.

My bike has bone stock carbs. engine and exhaust, but I would like to at least get rid of some of the cold bloodedness.  What sort of main jet settings can I use without buying an entire jet kit.

And I know it would be better to actual buy a jet kit, but one of the mechanics at work is going to help me and we're using stuff that's already on hand at the shop.  If it wasn't free, I wouldn't be doing it at all, so I'm not going to buy a jet kit.

anyway, anyone who knows what types of settings work well with a stock bike; your advice would be apreciated.

so if everything is stock, then just get the pilot fuel screw to 3 turns out....best way to go is to at least buy 125 mains and 40 pilots....you don't need a jet kit....you can get 2 mains and 2 pilots for like 20 bucks

good luck

Yes he's right, and the 40/125 is pretty much on the nose as well, combine with 3 turn out, and 1/2 mm thick washer under needle...
Cool.

great!  thanks.  that's exactly what I was looking for.   :)

First off I wuld say that what they said was right.

Just to throw you guys off about what you say for bikes with pods and exhaust. My bike has a K&N pod with a Vance and Hines exhaust. I run 137.5 mains, 40 pilots, no washers, and 3 1/8 turns. It is nearly perfect.

Dunno why?

I just checked my valve and all of them have zero clearance. Can this effect my jetting?

Yes.

Are you sure it's zero clearance? Try turning the shim. If it turns freely, there is some clearance. Push down the bucket by hand, and put your thinnest feeler gauge in (should be 0.03 mm or 0.0012"), and let the bucket back up. Is the feeler stuck, or does it just have some drag when you remove it?

Briggs

My thinest shim i think is 0.002ish. anyway I think I have zero because I can see that the back side of the cam lobes are wearing. So I guess the question stands.

You have stock needles in it?? Also you might actually be lean up high, and not know it (high speed plug pull is needed to actually determine if its lean up high). You also could have the floats set ~4-5 mm higher (any more and it will over flow into the air filter) and that actually makes it act 4-5 jet sizes bigger, though you will stumble when you open throttle quickly. It will run with 137.5, and run quite acceptably. It still is a little off from being rich enough to run and not too rich that it stumbles.
