So I changed both sprockets and put on a new chain yesterday.I got the bike with 5700 miles and put maybe 600 on it since last year. Anyway, once I pulled the front sprocket cover, it was apparent that no one ever really took care of the stock chain. This wasn't even all of them. There were still a lot of o-rings sitting in the sprocket cover when I took this pic.

Yeah, probably forgot to lubricate that chain. Ever. Let this be a lesson to people who think it is OK to neglect their chain lubrication.

i dont lube as often as i should but lord when the chain doesnt bend anymore you should be able to tell somethings not right...lol

Actually the chain was extremely loose when i pulled (cut) it off of the bike.

Yeah, I'd imagine the o-rings cause friction between links. The problem is that when they're gone, the lubrication goes soon after then the chain starts to rust like crazy. I guess if you rode all the time, you could keep it from seizing, but you probably would start to wear the bushings between links really really fast, causing the chain to go slack on you all the time...

WOW.  thats really not good for your chain to be shedding o rings like that. you might want to get that checked out.

I'm amazed the chain didnt just break with that many rings just OUT of it like that, and straight up unlubed ever.   post some pics of the chain for us mate.

The chain looks fine, besides being rusty.
