Depends on where u take it. I looked into the New Orleans area guy and they wanted 70 bucks no helmet provided. But you were on a three week waiting list if not longer. I passed that up, looked over in Pensacola FL. They have courses EVERY weekend. They charge 185 but they supply a helmet and its all done in one weekend. I signed up online on a Mon. and took the course that Fri. I could of waited and saved some cash. But I'd of ended up waiting a month to take the course.  http://www.learn2ride.biz/
If your in the area or want to spend sometime at the beach and learn how to ride. I recommend them highly.

do you have any idea what it costs to get a drivers license in Holland?
this is my situation: I had no expierience whatsoever, i went to a driving school to get a car license: 28 lessons multiplied by 37.50 euro per lesson + test 200 euro (you do the maths, VERY expensive)

then almost a year later: 20 lessons on a cb500 multipleid by 42 euro per lesson +217 euro for the test  :x  :x  :x
taking an extra course just to learn how to brake in emergencies and stuff like that is something like 250 euro's

lets just say 1 dollar=1 euro
conclusion: don't go to europe   :guns:

I think the price depends on how much the state DPS wants to make/chip in on the cost. Some states feel it encourages safe riding and set the prices lower.

Here in Houston, we have half a dozen MSF course location and they are taught ever week, sometimes twice. When I took mine last January we had enough people in the class that the range portion was split to two locations. I think I payed $150 or so, but that included helmet and bike.

The advanced course is cheaper. $75.

stop complaining....it's funny how when i go to the states, my friends Buddha Loves You about insurance, how they have to pay $600/year to insure their mustang, but then i tell them that i would pay 10 times that amount here in ontario, canada.....no, im not joking, i got a quote for a 2000 mustang GT...i'm a 20 yearold male with 3 years driving experience and 0 tickets and 0 accidents....$$$ 7000 / year

for us prices can be high i guess, but money well spent. but on the flip-side, we have (i believe) the cheapest gas prices in the world? not for sure on that though.

I've never paid more than $50 annually for my GS liability insurance.  Full coverage on the Toyota is $390.  Health insurance = $110 x 12.  Sales tax?  What's that?  There is no fukin sales tax where I'm from.  Gas is $1.60 per gal.

Bottom line is this working class slob can't afford your "free" health-care up there!

At Blue Ridge Community College it's $70 helmet and bike included.  I took it in october.  Now I gotta get my girlfriend to take it.

What are you Canadians complaining about? Do you know how much you save not having to pay for health insurance? I missed out on a whole summer of riding b/c my parents insurance wouldn't cover me if I had an accident on the bike.

Well, since health care in Canada is paid for by the government and the government if funded by the taxes it collects, how can you say they don't pay for it. Look at their tax rates.

nicely said...and also, we don't pay for staying in the hospital of something happens....but we pay for all the other expencess like drugs and so on...

i'm not complaining...it's just that only thing that's free here is your stay at the hospital...o yeah, and we have to pay for the ride in the ambulance

here is what we pay in taxes....15%...i make about $1300/month after taxes....before taxes is like 1600 so they take away $300 in taxes....then i go shopping for a month and pay about $200 in taxes....so that's $500 every month in taxes....so if we had to pay medical bills but didn't have to pay tax, then i could save $6000/year....

every place to live has an advantage....i'm just saying that if i was to ride and go to work then i would move to the states, but i have too many friends and family hare + i live 10 minutes away from detroit which is a good thing

I think I lucked out.  I pay $210/month to insure my bike [2002 GS] AND my truck [1994 F-150].  The best day of my life is gonna be April 23rd, when I turn 25, and get OUT of that under 25 Male category.  I'm gonna celebrate by buying a new bike!  

The safety course was gonna cost me $330....so I just wrote my M1 three times.  I gained valuable driving experience, without going on the freeway, OR driving at night.  And it only costs $10 to write the test each time.  The course is EXCELLENT, but it ISN'T real life.  Someday though, I WILL take the course.  I think EVERYONE should.  Bite the bullet man.  The $330 you spend on the course is NOTHING compared to the other money you'll spend on GEAR, REPAIRS, MODS, etc.  Bikes AREN'T cheap, so be ready.  $330 doesn't even get you a decent helmet, OR a decent jacket.  See what I mean?  Spend the money.

Insurance is so screwed up, it's not funny.  I would pay the same amount for an SV650, as I would for a TL1000.  How does that make sense?   :dunno:

I was in the same boat when I started riding.  I used to take out one of those 6 month accident insurance policies for a $20 premium which paid tens of thousands of dollars in case of injury.  Can't remember the exact amount, but I figured if it took more than that to patch me back together they might as well just shoot me and get it over with.  

Accidental injury insurance can be had for a reasonable price; don't ride without it.

Actually I live in BC canada and i pay for health care, 60 bucks a month. So no the gov't doesn't pay for it everywhere ! Ontario yes they pay...but not out her ein BC

Join the military and they provide the course free...

Let me say a couple of things:

Bad thing:  1.00 Euro actually equals about 1.25 Dollars

Good thing:  All that driving training doesnt go to waste.  Europe has a lot less fatalities on its road than the US.
I lived in France until I was 16.  You must me 18 to drive there and just like Jundie said it's expensive too.  So you basically have more mature and better trained drivers.
