I just seen this post, Sorry to hear about that, I hope you heal well. A few weeks back when I ditched mine I talked to you. Mine is a cracked scapula, seperated AC joint and torn muscles and tendons... And I could move it at all for about 4 days then I started to be able to lift it, (with lots of pain) and its still hurting, But yes I find I can get around without the sling now (not recommended) because of work. But I still cant put anykind of weight in that hand, my arm kicks me in that buttt. And then just falls... Not a good sign. The bad news is that the Dr. told me, that surgery would do more harm right now than just letting it heal. hopefully he's just a moron and it will get better or I'll be abe to have it corrected later. But I hope you feel better. Try not to pick up on anything.

You tell us! How far behind this car were you? Were you at least 2 sec away and looking ahead of the car? Just curious. Some things you can't avoid, but when it comes to bike accidents, it seems that most could have been avoided if the rider was really doing all they could/should have....

The RAD tech story is funny... I find that most people lack the capacity to really learn from other people's mistakes.

We just had a cat get killed in Lake Charles, LA. a few days ago. To no fault of his own. Some lady ran the light at an intersection and he slammed into the side of her. He possibly could have avoided the accident if he used caution when approaching the intersection, which I highly reccomend. You just cant count on anyone else to do their part these days.

Arg, the pain is familiar.  Besides dislocateign both shoulders numerous times posterior and anterior, ive torn the ac joints up pretty well.  he distal ends of my clavicles are poking up.  Fun stuff.  Doesnt bother me much anymore, just use to it as im sure you will be.  everytime somethign hurts, your tolerance goes up a little bit every time.  Still sucks though... I remember it very well.  Good luck healing.

I hit a 4 x 4 x 18 inch block of wood last fall.  I was following too closely.

Sorry,

I thought I put the details on this forum. I did more detail on beginning bikers. Sorry, I was doing the two second rule much more than that and people will cut in your spot constantly! I had just gone into the right track from a slight curve it was just after dusk. It came up at about 45mph. I didn't think an emergency swerve would have helped because I don't think I swould have gotten completely away. It hit hard enough to physically remove my hand away from the bar if I'd been in mid swerve I may very well have lost control.

Guess, I shouldn't be second guessing myself at this point is done and over . Trying to see if I could learn something for the future.

thanks,
Mary

Out of idle curiosity I'm wondering what it was that hit you.  If I had to guess it would be a chunk of shredded tire rubber from an 18-wheeler.

If I had something like that happen to me I'm pretty sure I would have ducked in an attempt to get under it.  Successful or not who knows.  I wasn't there, it was getting dark, and that is a rare occurrence indeed.  Usually things appear in the road that don't belong there, like holes, animals, puddles of various content, and construction litter.  While you concentrate on that a crow swoops down and almost takes your head off.  That happened to me once.  Hit me square in the forehead and almost knocked me off the back of the bike!  It's fun to balance on your tail bone with your feet in the air while your head is ringing, let me tell you!

The biggest surprise I ever had was a wasp smacking me in the chest and getting thrown up into my helmet!  The bastard landed all pissed off on my visor and I about flipped out!  Luckily I just had to flip open to visor and the wind threw him out up over the helmet.  My heart was beating BAD, I had to pull over and rest for 10 minutes just to get my legs back under me!

If it were my guess I'd say tire tread as well. But, even with the armor it hit really hard! I'd never been hit with tire before but didn't think it was that hard! I did drive by the next day but could not find anything that resembeled what I hit. But, they usually clean up most nights!

My doc said that when I felt I could handle the bike safely I could ride again. But, my ROM was really limited so it'd probably be a few weeks. If I don't see a good improvement this we will look at other avenues other than rest and wait.

Crazy. Around here the roads are always covered in junk, but I've rarely seen anything big enough to take force my hands off the bar. That was really bad luck on your part!

Once, while in my car, I watch a truck a ways ahead of me and 5 lanes over kick up a golf ball sized chunk of debris that flew over 5 lanes of traffic and hit my bumper. I remember seeing it clearly, as if everything was in slow motion. I could hardly believe it was happening, but it made a pretty loud noise, and when I checked my bumper, a dime sized chunk of paint was missing. That probably would have hurt if I were on a bike, but even that couldn't have been as big as the thing that hit you...

Well,

Today I went over to my friend's house to do some 'work' on the bike was going to take the fairing off and straighten it up. But, it it was oh so pretty out! Soooo, I went out on what was supposed to be a short ride. There was this out of the way road I used to take when working for the Mouse that had a few twisties and was always real quite which I figured if I could keep the bike a lower RPMs the vibration wouldn't bother me to much. Pro grip Gel Grips are worth the money :thumb:  So, I get out to the road and it is CLOSED WTF who closes a 10 mile stretch of road. Oh I get it there is a new Toll Road that runs through it. Sooo, the government uses my tax money to build a toll road to charge me. When there was a nice road that the tourist didn't know about that could get you around the mouse wonder how much it cost to shut down the road.

So, I'll take US 27 for a bit is a straight road and good speed at least I thought hadn't been down it in about six months. Target's and Wal-Mart's about five miles apart and red light's every half mile. Fine, get through ten miles of that ahh nice little stretch of open road there was a mini-van out-of-state tags kids jumping in the back and out of nowhere flies right into my lane. Seriously, it is just you and me on the road and no exits or anyone on the road WTF? I get into the other side of the road and just get as far away as possible. Now, I get up to where 27 and SR 50 intersect kinda busy but figure I can take 50 back to CR 535 and bisect the distance shoulder getting a little tight at this point!

WTF they have now closed a county road! Now, for the life of me I can't comprehend why they closed this road. It was another one of the "tourists don't know about" roads that all of the locals take to take a break from the idiot drivers. Well, now that is gone so it seems like you are now either forced to take I4 to 50 which is way the heck out of the way take the Toll road which I'm sure for the distance would come up to 4or 5 bucks easy, Avalon road which has the short cut closed, or 27 to 50 which is way out of the way too? I'm getting so sick of our local government reaming the locals to make life "easy" for the tourons. I mean what about us we are here 365/24/7! This is why I want Sun Rail GET THEM OFF THE ROADS!

So, for a quick little 20 min jaunt I ended up riding 60 miles and two hours! I need a vacation from the vacation capital. My shoulder is muy tight didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would but I did way more than I should have!

Those re-treads are no joke, a fairly large piece hit my girlfriends car on the highway and did 1600 dollars of damage.

It put some decent sized dents in her hood and smashed out a headlight so I can imagine taking one of those to the chest would be less than pleasant.
