So i had to take off my wheels. As i was following the hayne's manual.. it informed me on putting back to put some lithium grease.  well i didnt have any so i ignored that fact... is that bad?  i didnt do anything to take the old grease out.. so i figured i was just reusing..

anyway.. i decided since i was at the store to buy some lithium grease but unfortunately they did not have it. they had this one instead.  On the back of this can it said "do not mix greases of different soap type".. and i have no clue what type of grease soap was in the original bike. its an 08 GS500F.

will this work?  Again this is for lubing the rims when you are putting it back on the bike.
2008 GS500F Modification: Fenderectomy. Additional LED Brake Lights. Blue Underlighting Kit. Grills on the Fairing. K&N Drop in Filter. Laser Deeptone 2-1 Exhaust. DynoJet Kit. Rear Kellerman Turn Signal. 14T sprocket. Carbon Fiber Race pegs. SM2 handlebar. 06 R6 Rear Suspension.

I'm not sure what the book wanted you to pack the grease into or onto, but with an '08, the "old" grease is still just a buby unless you have committed the sin of power pressure washing.  I have yet to hear of incompatible greases causing any explosions, but strange things happen; when you repack wheel bearings it is a good idea to clean them first and then fully repack with new, I suppose that philosophy works for axles and such too.  Lithium is a very common ingredient and may be listed in the fine print of the product you purchased.

If I remember right from back in the day when I worked at a shop the lubrimatic lithium grease was white or pink.  What color was yours?

I only use either belray or maxima waterproof grease these days.  I used to be able to do an entire season of motocross racing and weekly power washings on one grease job.

I agree with pigeonroost's view on mixing grease.  I do remember a few times that I would find white frothy crap in bearings on customer's cars.  I don't know if that was incompatible grease or water contamination, though.  On things like steering head bearings and swingarm bearings I clean everything out with solvent and pack this in.  On the more sealed up stuff I just wipe out what I can and slop grease in there.  That's just me, though.

I'm absolutely positively no expert so take this for what it's worth.
My 90 GS500E has spread itself across the nation.

Yeah you've already got ok grease no sense wasting it. Just clean out the old stuff and put that in.
