I'm dusting off the bike for this season and its time to get some decent gloves.  I would ride gloveless  but then at least srarted wearing leather isotoners.  I know, not much better.  So I'm looking for some imput.  I like my gear to be relatively low key but very practical.  Gauntlet style gloves are a no go but I like the venting and protection that typically goes with bling and gauntlet style gloves.  I came across these,

I like the style but do the afford enought wrist protection?  Will my hands be a sweaty mess?

I tried those on last week.  I don't think they will be sweaty until swamp a$$ August is here in the lovely Northeast. As for wrist protection. There is no gauntlet. More like a golf glove. That short.

Were you refering to "Kevlar" wrist sliders.  Some gloves have this feature but are expensive.  If you were I have seen Alpine Stars, Dri Rider, MX, No Fear and Black Ice gloves with the wrist slider option.  They look great (if bling is your thing) but the downside is they are rather uncomfortable to ride with.  They will save your palm skin from melting on the road if you hit hand first but do not offer wrist support.

Your hands should not sweat in a good quality glove.

They don't have the wrist protection you were talking about. The Fox Bomber Gloves are awesome. Had them almost two years now and still look good. They have carbon fiber knuckles and finger inserts. Good leather palm. I've never "tested" them but think they'd do well. They are also great for Florida weather have never sweated in them. They were about $35 at the dealer!

You can get perforated leather gloves that will keep your hands cool and protected. I prefer the full gauntlet style because they offer more wrist protection and don't leave a gap between my glove and jacket. Also, don't use gloves that you can pull off your hand when they are on. Gloves should secure to your hand tight enough so that you can't pull them off at all once their securing method has been put in place. Also, don't get gloves that touch your fingertips when your hand is flat, they'll drive you insane when you're riding. In my opinion, you can't really buy gloves mail order, you have to go try them on. When I went to buy winter gloves, I ranged from a medium to an extra large, depending on model, in gloves from the same manufacturer!

On a side note, you're saying you won't get gauntlet style gloves because you think they don't look cool enough? You shouldn't make your gear decisions based on what looks good, that's not the point of gear. You wear gear so that you can be safe and ride longer. Wear something stylin' under your gear for when you get wherever you're going, but don't forgo important safety gear because you're concerned about what people see while you're on the road, that is just silly. Do you really think the squid who makes fun of your gauntlet gloves is not going to make fun of you for riding a GS500, no matter what you're wearing?

If I remember right they had a little extra something in the palm pad near the wrist. Motorcycles of Manchester (NH) had a big tent sale last weekend, it was worth the drive. I got some winter gauntlets with lotsa armor on the wrist/palm and fingers. And I got a Coretech GX2 jacket for $90.  Gloves were $72, though.

By wrist protection I was refering to the cuff length.  I didn't want the glove to stop at the base of my hand but rather extend about an inch down the wrist for better coverage.  As far as looking "cool" I couldn't give a rats a$$.  I just don't like the look.  Accually I am looking to NOT make a statement.  Especially with power ranger gloves.  Now granted, if some all black leather with minimal look at me-ness come along I'd be willing to try them. 

For some reason the picture at Chaparral is not loading for me, but having "road tested" I can assure
you that a full gauntlet (3-4 inches back from the cuff) is pretty much the minimum to keep
your skin covered when the nut on the seat hits the road. An inch won't do it, because your
sleeve won't stay put. The text description mentions "knuckle armor" - perhaps useful for bar
fights or offroad, not so much on a typical crash, when if you end up sliding, it's often palms-down.

My present pair are too old to find a picture of on the web, but based on the scars on the ones
they replaced they have both kevlar and metal "nibs" or buttons at the base of the palm. Not
really as far back as the wrist - but the leather continues back for a full 3-4 inches.
I took the power ranger-ish look in stride. Goatskin, IIRC.

yeah them chrome buttons were kewl in the day
right up until you started sliding on them and you walked away
with 10 little burn marks from the buttons as they heat up from friction

My cousin warned me of metal and riding gloves long ago.  He had a pair with steel rivets on the palm area.

coretech scarab insulated gloves. I liked the look and feel. The 'large' was a little tight on me around the knuckle plate so I ordered XL. Which is about normal for me.

   Those aren't the season gloves I was lookng for but good to keep in mind.

for the price, and build quality, I think I'm going to pick up a pair.  All I have is short cuffs right now too.

I get all my gloves here, I buy summer gloves in the winter and winter gloves in the summer (CLOSEOUT)..I also know that in Teknik I am a 3XL so buying online does not scare me.

I've got some Alpinestars gloves that I think are great - a little bit more expensive, but my old gloves were cheaper and fell apart after a month and a half .  These gloves have lasted 9 months, and are only now starting to look used.  Most of their gloves come in solid black, I would check out the SP2 or SP3, solid black color.

Word of caution though, try on a pair of these gloves (or similar model) to get a feel for what size is correct for you, as they tend to run small (for example, I usually use size small gloves, but the gloves mentioned above are mediums).

I have the alpinestars smx-2 riding gloves and love them.  they are great for warm weather, vent well and once broken in are very comfortable.

I have these gloves also, they are comfortable and my hands don't get sweaty in 100 degree weather.

+1 on the A* SP 2 gloves!  I picked up a pair from Cycle Gear for my summer riding.  They were $99 there too.  Lightweight, well made and seem to offer decent protection (just hoping to not find out, LOL)
