Hi all,

Quick question. I tried doing a little a search and couldn't find anything besides people with the older models and shoulderless sprockets etc.

I have a 2004 GS500F and I'm in the middle of replacing my chain and sprockets. Does the shoulder on the front sprocket face the inside or the outside of the bike? I didn't keep note of that when I took the old sprocket off. In the pictures in the manual, there is no shoulder showing on the picture when it's on the bike, so I'm assuming the shoulder was on the other side (facing the inside of the bike) or that the one in the picture was of the older model where they have no shoulder on either side.

I'm assuming the shoulder should be facing the outside though since it has the model number etc etched on it correct?.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure I understand what you mean. No diagram came with the part.

I'm just trying to see if the shoulder of the front sprocket faces inside or outside. The manual for the rear sprocket specifically states that the part stamp face outside. So I'm assuming it's the same for the front sprocket (shoulder + engravings facing outwards). However on the diagram in the manual it doesn't show the shoulder for the front sprocket.

Excellent, thanks gsjack!

Any particular reason they stamp the part number and whatever little symbol is on the sprocket on the other side then? I would image it would be easier for people to read the part number if it's facing out so they don't need to take the part off to read the part number etc. However, they make sure to note that the rear sprocket must have the engraving facing outwards. Sorry, I'm just trying to make sense of it lol, it just bugs me. :icon_question:
