Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster. This weekend a wind storm blew over my beloved month old GS at some point while I was out. What I'm wondering is if there's anthing I need to look out for before I try and start it again. To the best of my knowledge all that happened was losing some gas out of the tank filler hole and when I propped the bike back up it seemed like the airbox tube drained some gas.

Thanks in advance and thanks for having such a great forum!

Also, sorry if this is a repost. I'm writing this from my blackberry and there's no search function on the wap page...

+1, Then if she starts then you'll be good to go.  That happened to me several times at my old apt it sucks but rarely does damage. if there is a slight incline to the parking surface you park on make sure the bike is leaning on the kickstand downhil, hill wants the bike to fall over onto the kickstand side,l and that should help it not get tossed over but if you have flat ground parking close to something that breaks the wind works well too.

That is a true statement. No motorcycle parked close to me has ever fallen over.

Thanks everyone! It was actually parked so the wind was hitting the left side of the bike, so it was leaning into the wind. Must have been a pretty huge gust but I think I came out ok. I appreciate the help, thanks so much! I'll post back what I find later.

Good news is the bike still runs like a champ. The bad news is the tachometer no longer works. Has anyone had this happen to them after having their bike fall over? Where should I look first? Thanks again everyone!

I believe that on the 89s there is a cable that runs from the back of the tack to the engine.  Make sure that cable is connected all the way cause it can come loose and then the tach won't work.

I was actually just thinking the same thing. the tach assembly is kind of loose now so I think it's going to warrant taking apart and poking around with this weekend. again, i'll post what I find. thanks again everyone!

well the tach assembly it self will appear to be a tad loose.  There is a cable with a threaded cap that should just screw finger tight into the back of the tach.  My speedo cable did that to me while riding, i was pretty damn sure i wasn't going 0mph in the twisties :icon_lol:.  Check that before you do to much.

well, oddly enough the problem sorted itself out on the ride home yesterday. weird! still warrants looking into though. The tach assembly is noticeably loser than the speedo assembly which might be part of the problem (practically floppy, comparatively). I noticed the rubber grommets on the bolts so I can see what you mean by it being loose, though.
