Can anyone recommend a good full-face QUIET helmet?

And what's the best place online to order from. Wind noise drives me to distraction,  I have tried every earplug known to man, and without much success. Maybe if I could just find a nice quiet helmet.

two of my friends have Shoei RF-1000's and they've both raved about how quiet they are. I'd check them out :-) I know a few people with TZ-R's, but i'm not  sure where they stand volume wise. I've been reasonably happy with my HJC FS-15, but it could use some improvement...

I have shoei rf1000 and like it.  Were moldex purafit 6800 earplugs on your list of ones that you've tried?  I must have tried at least 10 different pairs over the period of a year before settling on these as my favorite by far.  Between the earplugs and the helmet it's a nice quiet ride.

Thanks, I'm going to look into getting the Shoe helmet-----in the meantime i'll try to find those earplugs----where did you get those?

+1 on the earplugs.  you might find that it changes the way you feel about your helmet.  Try Walmart, any store that sells guns/bullets, or hardware stores.

A buddy of mine has a job in a factory and snagged me some to try.  I absolutely loved them and I ended up buying 200 pairs of individually wrapped ones online.  I think they cater more to the commercial stuff and I've never seen them in stores.  I'll mail you a few if you want to try them.

I'm going to do just that, if they work as well as you say, I can save a pile of money by keeping the helmet I have.
At times I have been so desperate on long trips that I have stuffed soft foam rubber along the inside of my helmet over my ears---it was very quiet, but the pressure on my ears became unbearable after an hour or so.

Funny you should mention that Ineedanap, I just ordered 200 online from Amazon. Thanks for the info and the offer.

I have an Icon Airframe that I like a lot. It is pretty quiet, much quieter than other helmets I've had. I also have a really nice set of custom earplugs. They really make all the difference. No helmet is going to be quiet enough to be safe for your hearing at freeway speeds. Once you start wearing earplugs, you'll never want to ride without them again.

I'm looking to replace my helmet as well.  I have an AGV that is very noisy.  I'm leaning toward one of the flip front styles, with bluetooth capability.  I don't know where to start, other than to look at every bike shop in a 50 mile radius.

That's what I have JStrube, I think the damned thing actually amplifies the noise.

Jstrube, i would also try some ear plugs.  I had a G-Max helmet and it was noisy as all get out but comfortable and fit me right.  I started with the foam ear plugs and they work great but after about an 1.5 to 2.5 hours of riding my ears would start to ache and i would take them out. I had more luck with the rubber fitted type ear plugs that i got from a gun shop.  They are tailored to different sized ear canals and don't press on the inner part of your ear to much, like the universal foam earplugs, so i am able to wear them all day and not get an ear ache.

Now i have a scorpion exo and it is better but earplugs are still a plus.

my hjc isn't noisy per se. the wind noise doesn't bother me.  but i wear hearing aids and when my helment is on my head, it blocks the wind noise enough for me. yet, i'm still able to hear what's going on around me. i just need to find a more areodynamic helment. i've only got vents for my face.

Yeah, only vents for your face would kind of suck.  That's one thing i give to scorpion, mine vents great and the vents seal pretty good when its a tad cooler and i don't want so much wind on my face.

Also check with your local laws to make sure ear plugs are allowed. In my state they must be custom ear plugs. Some don't allow them.

Skeets, do the cops pull you over and give you a roadside head cavity check? ---------I'm a cop, and I think I would pass on doing one of those--that's a chicken Sh *t ticket anyway.

Yea, I think if you got a ticket for wearing earplugs you could fight it and win.  There should be plenty of evidence that at highway speeds the sound levels are high enough to cause hearing damage.

Even if not, I'd rather get ticketed than have permanent hearing damage.

Very true.  I almost always wear earplugs and I'm amazed at how loud it is even going 35 mph w/o earplugs.

I wouldn't even enjoy riding without earplugs. Especially since running a full V&H  and Lunchbox.

Yes, it is always good to know what the law is, but I'd probably just break it anyways. California used to be custom ear plugs only, but they switched to all earplugs allowed. The AMA keeps track of such things and lobbies to get them legal in states they aren't, so you could always head over to their site to check it out. I doubt any cop would ever notice you wearing earplugs or even care, but there may be circumstances under which it mattered if they were illegal. I'm thinking specifically of accidents...

+3 on the RF-1000! Fits my tiny head very well! Noise is down to a minimum. My doctor tells me to wear earplugs. While I don't think it is illegal in Florida to do it if my doctor wrote a script stating that would I be able to use that for just in case? I find if I don't wear ear plugs after about an hour of riding especially on the interstate I get an earache that can last for some time.

BTW didn't we just have this thread about three weeks ago. Hmmmm, gear area anyone?
