How many parts does a GS500 have.

So the topic says it all. How many parts are there in a GS. The small twist here is that, we count assemblies as 1. In a way, I'd even go so far as to say, what is commonly sold as 1 part.

Think of this is a question to get at the general complexity of the bike for a task like splitting the bike and putting in boxes lets say. And if you were to label each box with what it got inside it, how many would you have, yea somethign like that.

Bolts, nuts, screws, carriers, tags, zip ties, Orings/grommets, rubber buttons, and non removables with regular tools (like the ignition switch from the lower triple) dont count. pairs or 4's and 10's are 1, like all 4 Turn signals = 1.

So left switch assy will be 1 part, so will carburetor, so will engine, so will exhaust ... but front end wont be 1 part it will be wheel, axle, disk, brake, fender, brace, legs, lower triple, upper triple and bar = 10.

My guess is ~75-80. I'd go with under 100.
Let me start off by naming the FE and numbering them.
1. f wheel.
2. f. axle.
3. F Disk.
4. F Brake system (yes, dont split crap that got fluid in it).
5. F fender.
6. Fork brace.
7. Fork legs.
8. lower triple.
9. upper triples.
10. Bar.
11. headlight.
12. Turn signals.
13. horn.
14. left switch.
15. Right switch.
16. headlight ears.
17. clucth perch.
18. Cables.
19. Dash assy.
20. frame.

OK y'all take it from here.

Cool.

22 cdi
23 regulator
24 turn signal relay
25srarter relay
26 horn+relay <--------------- I mentioned horn.
27 carbs
28 motor
29 dogbones
30 linkage
31 swingarm
32 calipers
33 grips
...

26 horn+relay <--------------- I mentioned horn.

Also we will split the CDI, the regulator etc from the wiring harness, but most of the rest we do not.
Typically if we buy a wiring harness, it comes with much of this, so woring in the bike is basically 3 parts. Regulator, CDI, and all the rest of the wiring crap.
So 24, 25 and 26 are dropped form your list, and replaced by 1, wiring harness.

So 31 total ?
Cool.

That is it I think.
Sheesh its got 55 (ok fine 57, though 55-57 are the parts that are the most tossed away), that is it. And I have removed and reinstalled every one of them, atleast 2 X ... try 20 ...

Also any one that thinks they can generate millions parting it out in for a rude shock.
Painted parts if they are perfect (especially a rust free tank) Carbs, motor, dash etc sell in the first week. The rest will sit and rot.

The shock, the front fork brace, that rear inner fender, the rear wheel, swingarm ... many more - you cannot give away.

Of course the parts can be multiplied by taking it apart, like you split the forks, you'd get 20 little bits and pieces ... however the fact is, intact and decent forks are worth 10X the bits. Same with carbs, brakes, motor ... nothing else can even be split without destroying it really.
Cool.

Yes, what the heck is that stuff? It is so gross. I always think about cleaning it off when I'm in there, but I usually end up giving up and just putting the cover back and trying not to think about it.
