I was wondering if the front wheel off a katana would fit on the gs forks but leaving the extra rotors off ? also why can't you use a pre 98 rear wheel?

The Buddha

Fits perfectly ... cos its the same thing. Pre 96. The swept spoke series. 89-96 for sure ... maybe through 98 ...
Only thing you gain ... kat wheels had a lot more cool colors ... like there was this neat shiny gold, then there was a beautiful sky blue. I've also seen red and yellow ...
Cool.

well I'ld be repainting them to match but I could swap out fronts and backs with out major mods? is the front wheel on a katana wider than the sor could I just put a wider tire on the gs? I'm wanting to do the rear wheel swap but I want matching wheels front and back

The Buddha

Sorry I dont understand your question.
The swept spoke kat is same as GS for both front and rear.
The straight spoke kat is actually a drop in fit in the rear, and front can be modded to fit (I think). It is 120 front and 160 or so rear with that combo.

88-97 Kat 600/750 wheels (3" front & 3.5" rear) are the same as the GS. With swept spokes. Direct fit. Kat wheels will not have the cover for the left side of the hub.

98+ Kat 600/750 front wheels are 3.5" wide. With straight spokes. I have seen pics of this wheel mounted on GS forks, it was on the German GS site.
98+ Kat 600/750 rear wheels are 4.5" wide. With straight spokes. Some mods are required. See the FAQ section.
Common sense in not very common.

guitarking135

isn't the gs rear a 3.5 also?

so the 98 plus would be the only wheel that I could go with a bigger tire on.

The Buddha

Bandit 400 wheel is 4 inch and swept stroke. Can take up to 160 tar.
The Kat wheel that is 4.5 inch is actually the straight spoke, so look for that, but yea 98 and later. Also 160 tar before it hits everythign else in the rear.
Cool.
