I got one day try out at a mechanic shop in SF.  I really want this.  Any tips or advice for my try out.  A friend was an apprentice in a tattoo shop and gave me some tips, read up on tool names, functions spec. to bikes. 

Don't come in like you own the place.  Realize that you need confidence but still need to be taught.  If you know everything and make it known they are more than likely to think you won't take well to being told how to do things or being criticised.

Being personable in an interview is always helpful. I haved interviewed for and had way too many jobs to list. Every one I got, I knew I had durring the interview. In a non formal interview (such as one at a bike shop) I always interviewed as if I wanted the "interviewer" to be my new friend   I found that if they like you as a person/friend first they will hire you regaurdless of your skills!  

Most times I end up running the interview   Esp. in non formal interviews... if you are a people person and gauge the interviewer well as to not be "too personable" and just talk w/ them like you have already worked there for years... your in

Thanks guys. I enjoyed my date in the shop. At least I didnt get lost going there. Hope i got it. Will find out by end of the week.

yup scott, hehe been there, i got a job at compusa once like this, ( although the fuckers closed a month later. . BUT i got a bunch of free pc crap tho when we were cleaning out. nehow, i was in interview room, and was talking to the guy, his pc went nuts, i took care of it, then his phone, i got it running again as well. i got in that day PLUS got paid for the time during the interview lol
