When the carb is upside down which way do you bend the tab to lower the float bowl level?

AccidentalF

if you want to lower the float level, when it is upside down you are visually raising them. so, still upside down here, bend the tabs down to raise the floats.

INVERTED: Bend tang down, that puts float up, closer to the bottom of the bowl, thereby shutting off the fuel flow earlier.

ok so bend the tab down to raise the float level?

Ylw500

I just checked my float levels by doing the "float height check trick" and my left carb (sitting on the bike) is higher than it should be, so if i take the carbs off and take off the cover to expose the floaters which way should i bend the piece to correct my problem? im confused by the previous posts...   :icon_confused:

The adjustment can be done on-bike or off.  Typically, if done off the bike the carbs are inverted.  There is where the confusion is.  Do you have socket head cap screws on your float bowls?  If so, I recommend you leave the carbs on the bike and just remove the float bowl.  You want the fuel flow to shut off earlier, so bend the tang upward (toward the valve seat).

If you still have the standard screws, I suggest you get a JIS screwdriver to remove them.  (or just use a #2 Philips and be prepared to deal with buggered-up screw heads)  Once you remove the float bowl it is convenient to hold the carbs inverted, so bend the tang down (toward the valve seat).  And then get some stainless socket head cap screws!
