I grew up going to quite the multicultural school and my good friend's name was Ramdeep  (East Indian)   being a 2nd generation immigrant, even he thought it was funny 

also, didn't Nicholas Cage name his son Kal-el  after Superman's cryptonian name?  at first I thought "poor kid" but now I'm kinda jealous.  I'd take Kal-el over Brandon any day.

and i am very familiar with given names from asia, europe, the african continent, the middle east, our friends in israel, and i have never seen a "blank" , i.e. "-" used in place of/substitued for a letter. plenty of dashes within names, but that's it.
my ex-wife's middle sister was going to name her 1st born (if female) "Shaloe" (that's as close to her punctuation per my wife at the time as i can spell it) i asked my wife to find out just exactly how they were spelling "Shaloe", well it turned out to  be Chloe. so my dumbass sister-in-law was going to name her daughter Chloe, but thinking it was Shaloe. again, brilliant move.

i don't care where these guys folks were from, but they made their offspring's name a perpetual joke- if you don't think it's funny, that's fine by me, if you don't find it sorta sad, that's ok too- but if you check back with them in about 40 years on the general public's take on their monikers i think you'll find yourself in the minority.

Speaking of Morse Code . . . my dad was a radio operator in WWII and worked with code all the time.  Sixty seven years later he can still decipher the code on marine bands as fast as he hears it.  He's 85 now.  Amazing.  I can't even remember my phone number half the time.

Well, I've got about as plain of an American name you ever saw! But, 90% it is misspelled! How do you missspell Mary Sharp. Well, Mary can be Mari or Marry which Disney did to my nametag twice. And constantly they spell Sharp with an "e" on the end. Really, is my name that hard?

My boys name is Christopher or Chris, I mean what's wrong with just a good down home name. 

i'm with you cafe, i named my son John Wesley- and in 30 yrs the only question he's ever gotten was it after Dylan's album John Wesley Harding-
it was after my grandad.

i got teased growing up bout my last name. Serio. kids are mean. parents should think of that when naming their children.

I received a forwarded email about the woman who named their kid L-A not too long ago.  I am not saying your wife is a liar, I am sure a lot of people received the email and one of them was probably stupid enough to name their kid L-A.
