Hi Everyone,

I've done some searching and couldn't find an exact answer to this question.

I have an 89 GS500 and have access to 07 carbs. I just want to know of all the issues related to using these carbs.

I will be swapping the controls out on the bike (new ones will also be from an 07) so I will have the right length throttle cables (and the push pull setup).

My question is: Is there anything else I should be concerned with?

Are there any extras on the new carb, ie. emissions stuff, etc.

Thanks

as long as your new carbs arent from california, I would say they will do just fine.  just remember in the future if your gonna be rejetting, to remember that you have the newer carbs
gsxr shock

the newer carbs have three jets instead of two. shim the needles with two number 3 washers, trust me it's awesome.  it will work fine

thanks for the info.

I just wasn't sure if I needed anything other than the new controls and wanted to be certain.

Newer carbs have a throttle position sensor.  Make sure you get that too.  It'll need power, so a little electrical work is needed.  If you have old intake rubber you'll need new ones because they're a little smaller for the old carbs.

Yup they'll fit but might not work properly they have a tp sensor and your harness doesn't have a connector for it. You would need a newer harness as well to complete the circut. But hey its your bike mickey mouse the senor and do your best or get a harness and do it right.

so if I have the full wiring harness as well I'll be fine?

I'm pretty sure the TPS sensor has no effect on the internal workings of the carb.  I just sends an output to the "computer".  The "computer" uses that information to tweak the ignition timing in relation to throttle position.  Since the old style E model "computer" doesn't take throttle position into effect when controlling timing it won't matter if it's hooked up or not.

I like using the word "computer".  It makes the GS sound more hi-tech  :D
