Im 20, and mine is $100 a month with taking the MSF course.  If you have taken it then go.  It saved me 50 a month, definitly worth the cost of the class.  Im on my own plan too, got the car under my parents though (08 350z) cause it would be rediculous under me alone.

I pay about $21 a month through progressive with full coverage and i got a quote to drop it down to minimum coverage too and it would have been $6 and change a month for minimum coverage for 26 male in NJ with an accident that was considered my fault.  As for having a seperate policy from your parents so if something happens when you are on the bike and them not being able to come after your parents the way I was explained it by the insurance company when i was getting my own policy that they can still come after your parents even if you are on seperate policies if your permanent residence is still the same.  So opening your own policy and paying what may be more to prevent your parents from being able to be sued doesn't work unless you have different permanent residences or atleast in NJ it is that way so i would ask your insurance company about that before making a decision which way to go.  It almost sounds like I love YOU told you it was a 200/month when i would be that for a year or she gave them the information for a completely different bike.

I'm also with Progressive and have been for a while, great company in my opinion.  I had an accident few years back on my '03 Yamaha V-Star (gorgeous bike) and they took great care of me.  No qualms about where I wanted to have it repaired, hospital or any of that.  Same with when I hit a deer in my truck late last year.

I pay $41 for good full coverage in Ohio and I'm 25.

I also have progressive and pay around $250/year in FL.  Like they said previously, Progressive will take care of you as I experienced with an accident I had in '07.

i'm very close to buying a gs now, which will be my first bike. mom's freaking out obviously and called the insurance company and got a quote (i'm in VA btw). right now i drive a 1990 300zx n/a, and pay $100 per month. pretty high. i'm 19, i've had one small accident and no tickets, and male.

well, knowing all this, how ridiculous would you say $200 per month is? it sounds absolutely insane to me! is there even any possible way? that's what mom said it was though. there's a chance that she just lied so i wouldn't get one. i'm going to call somewhere else and get a quote though. which companies would you recommend?

btw, 300zx fs hit me up

I guess insurance rates are different in each state, but I just bought a 93 GS500 and with Geico I'm only paying $26 a month (in Maryland) and I have points on my license. BTW, 22 male.

1. I pay $89 a year in Missouri--full coverage. I'm closer to 39 than 19 but have a clean driving record.

2. Seems like it's time for you to Sac up and stop relying on Mommy to do all the leg work. Call around and KNOW what insurance rates are for you in your area. 19 is old enough to start taking care of these things.

3. Yes, $200 is expensive. I'm positive that if you start looking around you'll find it cheaper. However, next time you see another 19 year old doing a wheelie down the interstate at 80 MPH on their 300 HP supercharged Ninja make sure you shake his (or her) hand and thank them for indirectly jacking up your insurance rate.

Quick edit...

4. I get to thank drunk Harley riders getting liquored up at Hooters and trying to ride home for keeping my insurance rates up.
as well as suzuki, ducati, kawasaki, honda, aprilia, bmw , and even the chinese crap too you cant forget them :thumb:

I pay 380 a year full coverage for my 05 GSXR 750 through progressive in VA.  However with a newer bike, say a new 09 cbr600rr, i would be paying over 2.4k a year.  So if you are looking at quoting new bikes you might look into the used market because newness of the bike has a lot more to do with the insurance rates than displacement in my experience.

that's interesting. i thought about a new bike but decided against it. i'm pretty set on an '04-08 gs500f. like i said, progressive gave me an incredibly cheap rate. $213 per year. it's pretty awesome.

I'm paying $129 annually for my insurance because I bianually like clockwork get a ticket every few years ago as soon as the previous points drop of  :icon_rolleyes: I don't know why, either. Normally, I'm a pretty upstanding citizen when it comes to my driving. It never fails, though when I'm heading out of town somewhere that I "aquire" another citation.  :cookoo:
