This week, after doing my usual amount of obsessive-compulsive research, i finally took the plunge and bought my first brand new car ever, a 2009 Jetta TDI.   I really like the combination of high mileage with a car that can still move fast!   :woohoo:

I looked  around at lots of lightly used cars, and the price difference between a 2 year old car and a brand new car just wasn't that big, so I bit the bullet and spent a few thousand more than I wanted to, but I think it will be worth it in the long run, especially since I keep my cages until the wheels fall off!

I looked at Civic SI, but didn't think it was worth having a car that used Premium gas, which would kill any savings you get in mileage.    I'm a lanky 6-footer, and at 43 years of age, I don't want to squeeze into a tiny little car any more!

There are also a couple of really good TDI forums out there!
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

now all you need is an APPLE sticker on the back, some smart assed bumper stickers about saving the environment, and a COEXIST sticker.

(gstwins stickers add 55 HP to tdi's) ;)

congrats on the new ride. must be really really nice :D

Congrats, new Turbo Diesels are AWESOME!!!  Great mileage and with some minor tweaks you can have that Jetta giving Mustangs GT's a run for their money.

My dad had an E320 diesel that had been remapped and had an aftermarket turbo/wastegate and that thing could FLY!!!

I almost pulled the trigger on an '83 300d this week, still may and ditch the Jag.  One Brit car is enough for me right now.

Grats on the 09 TDI. I heard they're much nicer than the old MkIVs. Start tracking your mileage. I get about 36 city and 42 HWY. I freaking LOVE IT!!!!

Very nice, i wonder if the higher mileage diesels ever had runaway problems like some of hte euro units do sometimes. a rare occasion, but only way to stop it  is put in gear and dump clutch. that aside it is a freak occurence. those are badass. my p71 gets on average 23/city and 25 hwy if im easy on it. and that is hte interceptor motor and a full size car too. after my wreck in the c10 , ive got a slight phobia of small cars, ill drive em, BUT can never fully relax. ( ill have to get over that because my rx7 project  :icon_mrgreen: )

Nice car. I have a 2003 TDI golf. Haven't had to do squat to it in 145,000 miles. Just add fuel. Change the oil, and clean the intake screen. Did the front brakes at 130,000 miles.

I like pulling folks at the EZ-Pass tolls. 3rd gear from 15 mph to 70mph.

Buy a Ross-Tech VAG-COM scan tool. Worth it, in my opinion.

Nice choice!

I live in NY so diesels suck cold-starting in winter, but in Fla that is an excellent choice!

Your car makes my Neon look like a gas-guzzler! (I average 26 mpg with an automatic)
