Are the rear pegs pretty interchangeable on these bikes? In other words, can I get rear pegs from an 02' and put them on an 05'? Also, While Im changing bulbs in my speedometer and tach, will I  short anything out by pulling one of the bulbs out and riding around with it out so that I can make sure to buy the correct bulbs? Thanks

nope, it is fine to ride without one of the bulbs.  194 is the bulb you want.  rear pegs from any year gs500 will mount the same

May as well take the opportunity to upgrade to LED bulbs. I just did it this past month and I love it!  :thumb:

Hey Pronator,

where exactly did you buy your bulbs at. If I say go into Radio Shack. Will they have them or is it something I can get at wal-mart?

Also, are the lamps for the tach and speedo the same size? They looked bigger to me when I was replacing my turn signal indicator lamp that has already blown!

I want to do this very badly!

I used color changing leds from auto zone in my old gauges.  they were like 10 buxx for two  it looked sweet, people liked them almost as much as they like my led lighting under the swingarm and motor

I got the same ones.  I thought that they were regular white LEDs but when I got them installed I found they changed color.  I thought they were tacky at first and was going to replace them but they grew on me, and when people comment on them I tell them how I accidentally pimped my ride.

Mary, Tach and Speedo are the same size but aren't the same size as the indicator bulbs on the 500F. Speedometer/Tach use a 194/168 and indicators use a 74. Problem with a 74 LED is they're polarized so you can't use for your turn signal indicator. I did like others suggested and made a non polarized 194 fit the turn signal indicator by grinding it down and forcing it in from the top. Ordered from SuperbrightLEDs, work awesome during the day but are blinding at night. Get the lowest output LED for the high beam indicator also.

Sorry for the delayed response, Mary. Just stumbled back on this thread.

I got mine at SuperbrightLED.com, too. But my bike's an "E" not "F."

For my turn signal indicator, I order the "6x" and had no problems with polarity. If I had to do it again, I'd order the 4x instead - the 6x is really bright!

And yes, definitely, definitely, definitely get the single for the high beam indicator. It's more than enough!
