handlebar holders from different bikes

I currently own a 97 GS500E.

Does anyone know if handlebar holders from different bikes can be used to secure a (stock) handlebar to the GS? I think I might have some luck finding handlebar holders from different bikes at the local scrapyard and I am curious to know if I have any options.

The bars I have currently are the ones which clip to the forks and they are not the most comfortable ones I used.

Put pics up, and we'll tell you what to go look for.
I could trade you something better if I like what you got and you think what I have will suit you. But yea put some pics up.
Cool.

Some quick photos I snapped before the battery died on the camera.

I would ideally love to go something close to stock. I can get a stock handlebar relatively easy but the holders seem to be more difficult to get in a timely fashion.

I have the pieces you're missing.  You can have them for free.  If you use the link jeremy_nash was cool enough to post you'll have to click on the handlebars category.  Then just like he said, it's number 3 that I have.

There is also a great looking set of 89 bars in the for sale section that would work even better.  (shameless plug)  :D

oops, my bad, I thought it would automatically go to the handlebars section.  thats what I had it on, oh well, INEEDANAP looks like he has you covered     :woohoo:

Yea what they said. $20 super bike bars and the blocks that go on top ... he's give you free, so just buy  superbike bars, then give your clip on's to ineedanap (he's given away so much stuff recently ...) if you give to him, it prolly go to 10 more people free ...

Ineedanap, are yours actually spares, or are they off a top piece you're just not using anymore? I have some that are actually extras, as I'm going to take the top peice and shave off the bottom half of the bar mounts so I can use the top clamp with some clipons, so if you're splitting up a set, I have a pair he can have that won't ever be used.

Hey Flair, Obviously you're not super crazy about them since you're switching to the riser bars anyway, but how do you like those clipons below the top clamp? do they feel way too low, or just not your style? I have some old clipons on my bike, but I just completely removed that very top piece, and slid the bars up a quarter inch and put the bars on top of the triple clamp. I wouldn't mind moving them below it, but I wasn't sure if they'd feel way too low. I also would have to find a special bracket for the headlight and turn signals like you have, because the stock ones don't allow clipons below the top clamp, so I'll have to think about it and make up my mind before I feel like spending money on a new headlight mount.

Any of you guys with a ton of parts laying around have any headlight brackets like Flair's that fit the GS forks you'd wanna sell?

They were spares.  They're already on their way to Canada.

Thanks for the compliment guys, but I don't need 'em.  I already have a set.  Plus I still have a pile of stuff to give away!  I'm sure they're worth a few bucks in the for sale section, you should put them there.

I didn't like it much because it was too much pain for my wrists for long drives. I also noticed that my hands were kind of numb after a stretch on the highway. During longer rides I found myself lifting up a little bit and holding on to the throttle with the tips of my fingers. This was extremely dangerous but it was the only way I could find a bit of comfort while riding around with these clips.

It wasn't all bad though. It was fun to boot around my area with those clipons. It made the GS feel a lot more sporty and me and my neighbour even goofed around a bit by resting our feet on the rear pegs while riding.

I wouldn't recommend lowering it to the point where I had it unless you have strong abs / wrists.

Just a thought but has anyone tried putting them on upside down, they would push them a little closer to you but more straight out to clear the tank. and also on top of the triple to push them up a little. Havent tried it but looks good on paper?

Just a thought but has anyone tried putting them on upside down,

The ones on my bike are a little different from the ones already pictured, but they are on top of the triple clamp.

Mine were from an older R6 if I remember correctly, although it's been so long, that I can't even remember how they felt where they are, but they're obviously lower than the stock bars, and look like they're about in the same place as the 89' bars. The ones already pictured have much bigger clamps, and aren't flat up against the top triple clamp, so I think I could put mine under and still have them a little higher than that. It should also help the bike feel a little smaller for when Heather rides it as well. I'm gonna give it a shot, I just have to wait until I find a new headlight mount that won't get in the way of the bars. From sitting on it how it is, I feel like I'd enjoy the bars more if they were a little lower than they are now. I also ride bicycles a lot, which have handlebars that are well over 6 inches lower than my seat, so until I actually start riding around, these bars are always going to feel way too high.

I know cstilt has em, he's not gonna be able to use em, he's gone to katana forks. If he finds a replacement (I sure hope he does cos he had these ultra cool bug eye headlights ... beautiful DDD boobies they were too)  he should fit the lights onto the kat one and should have the GS to spare.

I'll be happy to sell them once I manage to remove the clips from the forks. I am having a heck of a time trying to bending it open....

lopee

The way you remove  them is to loosen the allen head bolt and the 12mm bolt on the upper and lower tripples, you can't bend them or they will break ! Then you slide down the forks and remove them.you can lower them one at a time, if you remove the front wheel.
