i've had enough non-riding weekends now that looking at the gs just brings feelings of hate. hate the carbs, hate the damned carbs, hate hate hate the carbs that are never ending problems.

sure, we had some fun times. sure, i learned a few things. i just f%$king hate the sight of it now. i'm still trying to get it running. a week here and a week or three there of flawless riding interrupted by a couple months of bulloh my goodness fiddling isn't acceptable anymore.

had a dream about it 'accidentally' falling out of the truck while traveling at 70 mph last night. it was sweet !

(post your hate here if you like)

WHICH BRINGS US TO: a topic change, and the first step:

7-1-2009: throttle bodies arrived today. 2002 cbr f4i, complete with fuel injectors, tps, returns, etc.

buy some carbs off of an 01+ and be happy. don't know what you're doing wrong but you shouldn't have to clean them all the time. you sure that's what's always causing the problems?

I've bought newer carbs 3 times now. Yes, for the short answer.

Occam's razor:  The simplest solution is often the correct solution.

ahhh, fabels and theories. ya, great, it makes for cool conversation, but gets very little done that i've noticed. :D

Probably why your carbs continue to be fuched up.   Occam has held true more than his fair share in my experience.

lessie, clean nothing for 4-5 months, just ride. then it shits the bed. so... we start with:

disassembly, sorting all the L and R bits into baggies. don't kill o-rings, don't kill jets by turning the wrong way, etc
poke n prod with tiny  tiny wire where applicable, check slides, check boots, check caps, check floats... speaking of floats... ya, they don't adjust... at all. bend a tang, nothing changes. bend it back, no change.

float needles are fine/sharp/undamanged. floats were tested in gas and alchohol today for leaks. no leaks.

overflow is fine. vent is fine. choke circuit is fine. needles are stock. shimmed with 2 #3 washers (or is it $4 ? i forget) two of em.

slides are good, not sticking. after examining the 3 other sets of carbs, this is the cleanest, best working, smoothest sliding set i have.

spark ? hot, good.(both sides, yay!)

petcock ? flows like a river. no bubbles in a test fuel tube.

intake boots ? they've been rtv'd at some point, by me or whoever, can't remember. no leaks.

valves, prolly due, but not like it's causing a black cloud of fuel in the air.

this thing is so clean and rust free... it's edible metal. even the drains have no gunk in them.

carbs just hate me. hate.

Here's a more-formal warning, wladzui, from yet another someone who CAN "do something about it": if you keep up in the vein you're in with this thread, you'll get a brief "calm down" vacation.

NOW...let's all just get along!  :thumb:

Aaaaaaaaaaand....back on topic..... I loveloveLOVE my FI. I never had any love for the carbs....  :icon_lol: If the Baby G had come out with a FI model, that likely would have been GS #3.    :icon_mrgreen:

Now my commuter Baby G is giving someone ELSE carb headaches (hi, Moto!!)  :icon_twisted:

I was out riding today with another Bandit, mine was the last model with carbs and his the first with injectors. Advantages and disadvantages to both but the injectors snatch a lot at very low revs and speed, nasty in town traffic. carbs for me!
