To whom it may concern:

What?

"OLD FLICK, BUT KINDA GOOD?"

Excuse me, but "On Any Sunday" just happens to be one of the greatest documentaries made about motorcycling and the people who ride motorcycles, if not THE greatest documentary about motorcycles ever made.

Sorry, but I just had to say that. :)

A classic picture despite being dated and OLD.

:)
Watch it on DVD for the best possible experience, not on puny Hula.com.

OK, I'm calm now.

Best wishes,

No offense intended "Kinda Good". Just watched it for the first time last night and give it two enthusiastic thumbs up.

That's why I posted the link. Wasn't sure how many people are familiar with it (1971). The narrator sounds like Warren Miller from the skiing docs. Not sure if that was him.

I live in Temecula which is right next to Elsinore and Murrietta so got a kick out of watching the Elsinore race.  One part they said ".. even the pig farmers from Murrietta join the Elsinore race."  Today there is no more pig farmers in Murrietta, Ca only track homes.

I've been riding for about 15 years and the movie reminded me of the first bike I owned. 1975 CB400F SuperSport I paid $500 at a garage sale.  My parents when they found out made me sell it.  The guy who bought it off of me after I had sold it told me I could of gotten a lot more money for it than I asked for.  The bike was sort of a classic being the first Honda with short racey handlebars.  I miss that bike but my GS500 is a good substitute.

Oh Stormchaser my friend,

My second bike I ever owned was a 1975 Honda CB400F, the blue one.
I still miss that bike.
I bought it in 1976 with 1300 miles on it for $1,600 and rode it and loved it for nine years.
I still miss mine, too.

We are brothers. :)

Mine was Red.
Someday I'm going to buy one again if I can find one.
Do you know how much they go for now?

Is it true about that bike being a classic

Hi again,

Yes they are classics, the first factory built cafe racers from Honda.
They only built them for two years with the low bars and rearset footpegs because US riders didn't like the lower (better) seating position. In 1977, they put high bars and normal pegs on them and ruined the bike. 1977 was its last year.
I've seen them on eBay in bad shape for $2000 to $2500 and in great shape for $4000 to $8000.
They are not cheap.
Someday I'd like one again, too.
I also had a red one, as well as the blue one.
I'll post a photo of mine it you want to see it.

Best wishes,

I haven't thought about "On Any Sunday" in ages.  I remember I liked it a lot.  I'm gonna go watch it again.  Nostalgia time!

Yeah, CB 400F's are now collector's items and go for ridiculous money, so you'd be way better off finding a good GS 550E (which is still pretty easy) and turning it into a cafe racer, or do it with the bike you have.  Re-living the dream isn't worth it, thank the damn collectors!

EDIT:  I just watched "On Any Sunday" again and it was like being 9 again.  Those kids on the banana bikes are my age!  Great picture, and full screen mode on my 17" laptop looked pretty damn good!  :thumb:

It captures the essence of motorcycling, doesn't it?  It didn't go on and on about this or that brand of bike and how much they cost and describe all the sensors, electronics, and automatic systems they have like it probably would if it were made today.  I think today motorcycling has become more about the bikes to many than riding them.  This movie kept it simple like the bikes of the day and centered on just how fun it is to ride a bike!  Awesome, but that music sure is cheesy, ain't it?  :thumb:
