You can do that with HJC's as well.

Yup Shoei's have cheek pad too! I tell you what if I can find one to try on this may be my next helmet http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/38/17571/ITEM/Element-Fastrack-Bluetooth-Solid-Helmet.aspx?SiteID=SLI|Element%20Bluetooth%20Helmet&WT.MC_ID=10010

But, that won't be for awhile unless I truly test my Shoei!

i have a scorpion exo-400 and it is pretty good.  It isn't the lightest thing by any means but i get minimal head buffet and wind noise isn't terrible, though earplugs are still a bonus.  I have had three helmets so far and this one it my favorite.

I really like my AGV TiTech basically because its very light but to be honest it is very noisy without earplugs.

I recently borrowed one of these

whilst riding down in Cornwall. It was brilliant, quiet comfortable and relatively cheap.  So I have just order one for myself.

The flip front design allows you to stop and have a quick cold drink without the hassle of taking the helmet off.  Its got an outer clear visor and a second integrated dark visor which you can easily flip up and down whilst on the moove. So as you enter an unlit tunnel  just reach up and the darkened visor retracts allowing you clear vision through the tunnel, but when you exit into blazing sunlight its easy to slide the dark visor back into place.  The best bit is it has an integrated bluetooth 2 speaker system which will talk to my SatNav/phone/MP3 player and as its completely wireless you don't get tangled up in cables when you stop for fuel.

The downside is its a bit heavy and you will get kneck ache on a long run. At touring speeds it was a lot quieter than the AGV.

Love the shoei RF1000 I scored last year from the scott_pa_gs.

My observation: The higher end helmets typically are lighter, better vented and more air tight when vents are shut, quieter and smaller shell for the same head size while giving you the same protection. That is it. My bieffe will probably cream the Shoei in strength, it also has a good fit for me. Shoei is close but a tad off, but the bieffe leaks like a freaking seive - its venting is OK but it lets in tons of air when vents are shut. Its quiet - not as good as the shoei prolly cos it has poor air shut offs. Its shell is larger than the shoei and it cost me near 2 X what I paid for the shoei. Oh yea, it looks so cool though. Bieffe GPR in the biaggi paint scheme. Lovely.

And for the $ he sold it for, I doubt you could get a plastic Z1r for that $.The damn Z1R is a huge - think baseball sized head in a basketball sized blob ... helmet with poor vents and seriously poor wind seal. No idea of noise. Not run with it on a bike.

Cool.

FWIW as a newbie I did a lot of research into this topic.  I tried on a lot of helmets and asked the right people.  I ended up with a HJC IS-16 for $137 at NewEnough.com.  I absolutely love it!  Has an internal flip down visor as well.  On the highway it is stable unless you move your head side to side.  BUt straight on it doesn't move much, does not create too much drag, and has yet to give me a headache.
