good thing you did not take her to the bike shop. this would probably be the most expensive gasoline in the world....

one more thing though: you said that you tried starting the bike in different petcock positions (ON, RES, PRI) and you said it did not make any difference. Actually if you were low on gas it should have made a difference - you should be able to start her and ride back home with the petcock in RES position.

If that did not work, then make sure that your fuel lines are not switched!! If they are, you won't have the RESERVE functionality.

cheers

So i procrastinated on checking the petcock and lastnight before taking a short trip to the fathers thought "why not run it on res...surely with a practically full tank that will be fine!" well it was fine for about 2mins untill it just died on me.

clearly like kml.krk sugests there is probably a problem with the petcock was on the money.

i'm thinking of trying the alteration i think dgyver suggested (sorry if it was another user) where you change the overall position of the petcock to cut out the vacuum line.

fingers crossed that will work!

if not then too hell with the GS petcock :technical: and i'll get a honda one  :D

Hwy5

KC,
I could be wrong but recently I had a very very similar issue on the highway. I ride my bike everyday and it sits in the sun at work. Over time, a very short time, my battery went bad and exhausted enough battery acid to expose one of the fuel cells. Basically, my battery would not take a charge anymore. You could have a bad battery. The way you describe what happened is exactly what mine did on the highway and then on an on ramp just before it died and a friend, a GREAT guy, had to come pick up the bike and myself. Not sure if this helps but it is very easy to check with a voltmeter just to be certain that it is not this issue.

Best of LUCK!!

Hwy5 - i managed to get my initial problem sorted out. i misgauged the amount of fuel i had in the tank. i put £5 in and it instantly started when on prime. since then i've not touched the petcock untill last night like mentioned in my latest update for the moment though everything is working ok as long as i dont change the petcock settings. i'm going to investigate a little further later today. i did originally think it was the battery and had it charging for a decent amount of time. not too long as to bend the lead plates inside though.

i think the symptoms we have shared arent specific to one particular fault. i was lucky it wasnt an expensive fault or one that would take a lot of time.

i'll keep you updated
