grinding down GSXR pegs

I'm trying to install some GSXR pegs on my GS and am having trouble shaving off the few millimeters needed to get them to fit.  I tried using a dremel and the grinding disks it came with and it mostly polished the aluminum.  Besides the dremel I've got a handheld electric sander and electric drill - is there anything attachment-wise that will work?

is it a grinding disk or a polishing disk.  The dremel will do it but you might have to go to home depot or lowes and buy a different bit for it.

If you're using those paper-thin discs that come with it... you'd better be wearing eye protection!
Those things aren't very useful, except for snapping off and impaling your cornea.

You need the reinforced cutting discs, if you can afford them.  They're about $12 for a pack of 20, IIRC.  Don't waste your money on the quick-attachment chuck or collet.  Just get the big black discs with the normal screw hole in the middle.

You can use a file, but you've gotta spray Pam or WD-40 or something on it, first.
Aluminum clogs up abrasives.

Probably be easier just to buy a GSXR to put the pegs on :D :D

If I could find a GSXR for $10 I definitely would

80 grit sandpaper and a hard surface... or an angle grinder. Really, I dont know how i lived before i got my angle grinder.

I went to lowe's and bought a grinding/sanding kit for my dremel.  I tried using the metal grinder on the 'hi' setting with a full battery and it didn't seem to do much.

tt four, yeah I think those are the right ones, although you probably have to grind them down too.

would anyone be willing to try to grind them down for me if I sent them to you and provided some cash to send them back?

I ground down a set of those ebay pegs also. Just use a large metal file, I started with a dremel and it was taking forever. Tried the large file and it takes off a lot of material and it makes it fairly straight. Keep fitting the pegs in and putting pressure on to see where it rubs on the mount and you won't even come close to taking too much off.

Dr.Sparkie

I'd love to grind them down for you, but your money is better spent on a large file or sandpaper, they will serve you better in the long run.

grinding the fun way: get the bike going and reach down, holding the peg against the asphault (or concrete... you flordians love your concrete highways)

so a large file is the way to go huh?  well, it looks like another trip to lowes is in my future.  I guess I can use that dremel set to sharpen my lawnmower blade.  and I may get an angle grinder just for fun.

What's everyone doing with these stock pegs? I could use a pair for back up in good condition :). Send too P.O. Box oh NM.

Toogoofy317

Uhm, keeping them for back up pegs is what I'm doing  :dunno_white:! Don't think I'll go back anytime soon.

Or if someone doesn't have a pair and is in a Jam. Acutally, have helped a few folks out in a jam. Usually, just ask for shipping on that stuff.

Mary I was going to make a joke and decided against it. I was going to have them send them to Buddha  :D He'd love me for that wouldn't he? LMAO

LOL! Yeah, I'm in the mindset of if it is something I'm not gonna use again ( garbage to me) and someone needs it I like to pass it on. People have done it for me on here in the past. As they say what goes around comes around. I believe in Karma and thinks it pays off just check out the Odds & Ends for that proof!

thx for the offer Mary.  I actually have them marked so I know how much I have to take off, I just can't seem to do it very easily with the tools I have.

We need to get out to those back roads of disney soon although with how hot it's getting and the rain, a few hours on the bike sounds less and less fun.  maybe we should go once it cools off some more.

Just make sure you check the filing often. I've seen people who filed too far, and the pegs are actually angled down a little bit and they look like they'd be awful.

Toogoofy317

Eh? Not too bad I ride about five days a week! It ain't getting cool 'till November if then!

All I have is a small grinder doubt that'd be any help!
