Anybody have a spare rear brake rotor?  I don't have much money, but I can give a little.

Long story short, I bought a rear brake rotor off eBay and the pictures failed to show major rust and grooves in the rotor.

Thanks if anyone can help.

How bad are the grooves? Do you have a local machine shop that can resurface it? If not I would write the seller up on E-bay and dispute the purchase!

Well I had my Dad take it to the steel mill he works at to have the rotor resurfaced, but I believe the guys that did the job just screwed the rotor up even more.

As far as eBay is concerned, the guy doesn't accept returns, so no luck there I guess.

Man that is a bummer. I guess buyer beware lesson learned? Luckily so far I have not been burnt like that on Ebay. I actually bought a Digital Camera on there for $8 for parts and when I got it I took it apart to see what was broken and couldn't find anything and when I put it back together it worked like a champ! So go figure.

I guess I'd be leary of buying parts like that unless you know the person?

I don't think that's how it works, he has an obligation to sell you what was described

I should still have several rear rotors left. I will check tonight with their condition and get some pics.

It's the first time I've ever had a problem with eBay, so now when I look at parts I'll just have to get a picture of both sides of the part.

Honestly, I'm not too sure how the returns work, but I read his eBay page which said he doesn't accept returns.  I think, and I'm not sure, but the seller may be obligated to accept a return within a few days of pruchase if the condition is not as described.  The problem with that is I had my Dad take the rotor to the mill and it's been more than two weeks now.

Bad news... out of the 4 rotors I have, they all have grooves. Nothing that I will sell, but you can have any of them for the cost of shipping.

Are the grooves deep? B/c right now I'm desperate for anything as long as the grooves aren't too bad.

I have one laying here at the house you can have for shipping. I just checked it for grooves. I couldn't see any grooves, but I could feel a slight bit on it.  I'd have no objection to running it, but it's your call. I can try to send you a pic if you'd want.

Pics definitely help if you don't mind.

The problem with the rotor I bought off eBay was that it was extremely rusted on the non-pictured side, so when my Dad took it to the mill, they screwed it up even more.  Now, the rotor that's currently on the bike.....let me just say the previous owners were idiots for driving it around with the way it looks.

I don't mind. Just have to find my camera and snap some and upload them. I'll try to do it quickly for you.

It sounds like cstilt's rotor is better than what I have.

Here's the pics I promised. I tried to get any flaws it has in the pics. Looking at the rotor I couldn't spot the ridges I spoke of too well, but they show up under flash a bit better. Also, you can see on the other side of the rotor there's a bit of surface rust on the edge. I looked at it and there doesn't appear to be any pitting or anything that would cause me much concern. Others on here may be able to say more though. I would have tried to sand the rust off before i took the pics, but I don't have any anything here to do that with. Besides, it'll wear off in about 5miles.

dgyver, if yours turn out to be better than mine i'll just toss mine in the trash. I'd rather him get the better part, especially when it concerns brakes.
Hopefully, one way or another, we'll get you back on the road. lol
