i mean i don't know how to be much more specific, exhaust leak where the exhaust attaches to the engine, so it makes this nice hissing sound, how does one go about fixing said isssue. I mean, if there were crappy gaskets to replace that's what i'd do but yea

So, go down to the dealer, spend $5 on exhaust gaskets, and do that.

They are one-use crush gaskets. Some folks to try to get more uses out of them. Perhaps you don't have any? You're supposed to.

6MM allen wrench (IIRC) and a can of high-temp antisieze (I like the copper flake stuff, but whatever - if it works on O2 sensors on car exhaust, it should work on bike exhaust bolts). PB Blaster might help if your bolts are a bit tight to get out this time. Reefing on the wrench will eventually break something if the bolt is really stuck.

Explaining where the exhaust was leaking helps clarify quite a bit.  For all we know, it was leaking from rust on the midpipe before the exhaust canister which is a completely different fix than what it looks like you need.  Follow the directions DoD#i gave you if it is leaking from the where it bolts to the head.

interesting interesting, my roommate told me that it didn't use gaskets for some reason, thanks yalls, too bad the closest dealer is an hour away.

If your not in a hurry you can order them cheaply on ebay, but if you want to get it fixed quick drive an hour.  Might want to call before to make sure they are in stock.

my brand new (to me, and off the lot!) 2007 was apparently missing these crush washers.  I didn't notice the leak, but on the 600 mile service the tech said that they needed them, so, I'm awaiting these washers... kinda annoying.

Wow, I have been known to be pretty frugle but this is not the area to be. If you ever take off the exhaust always have a set of these on hand in your tool box. In cold weather an exhaust leak that close to the valve...OUCH suck some cold air in there and you get an even louder noise then your money hitting the counter at the Bike shop!

I'm glad I read this b/c when I installed my exhaust I didn't see any gaskets, so I didn't pay much attention to it.  I guess I'll have to go buy those soon. 

sometimes the gaskets are soo black with carbon they look like part of the head, or manifold. give some parts a few pokes and see if anything comes loose.

+1,  I thought mine were missing too, but they were there after all.  They look like part of the head.

The first set are the correct ones. I have never used the copper colored ones. They should be $5 at the bike shop. As far as not seeing them when you take off the exhaust header? I have never had this but I guess it is possible. Use a flash light and look up in there and it will be obvious when they are present. The manifold of the head is very smooth and has a machined surface. The gaskets no matter how old will look nothing like that surface. Good Luck

Thanks.  The only reason I'm searching on my own is that the "bike shop" keeps telling me that they "have them on order and should be here anyday...."  I'm tempted to go pick the bike up and do this crap myself.  He was the one that alerted me to the leak, I couldn't hear it but he did.  I'm just ready for my bike back.   

It's a very simple procedure. Make sure you put rags over the back of your fender and the bolts should come out easy and make sure when you put them back do not over tighten. If you don't have a torque wrench generally as tight as you can get it with just your one hand is sufficient.

Another tip is when you put them in you can use a very LIGHT layer of grease to make them stick to the head while you use your fingers to start all of the bolts as far as you can before using any tools.

In a pinch... I have used high temp silicone to seal the exhaust before, this is used with an old set of gaskets.

just picked the bike up.  they never ordered the gs500f parts, but he "said" a "busa part is more or less the same," even though the numbers are different.


i've ordered the correct parts and will just wait til i get them and do it myself.  what is wrong with people.
