Hi i was wondering if anyone had any information on chain link removal?
I have a 17t sprocket on atm on my 2007 gs500f but when i went to put the 15t on, the chain was too slack and adjusting the chain woud not of done enough.
Is there any certain number of chain links per teeth on the sprockets? If so do i just need to use a link remover to take some out?
Or is there another way of taking the slack out of the chain?
cheers

you will need to remove 2 links of the chain, 1 outer link and one inner link.  you can use a grinder to do this, but be very careful.  if your chain doesn't already have a master link in it, you will need to use a master link to reconnect your chain back together.  if you have to go to a bike shop, pick up 2 master links, as the clip may go flying when u try to install it

is there any way of doing it without grinding the link?

What length chain do you have now?  Is your rear sprocket oem 39T?  If it is oem 110 link chain it should work with 15/39T sprockets.  I always ran 110 link chains with 15/39T sprockets on my 97 GS.  Center distances:

I'm using the stock chain with a 15t front and OEM rear.  It'll work fine unless your chain is worn out.

so i can put the 15t on the front and leave the stock sprocket on the rear?
if so will adjusting the chain backwards take enough slack out?

as long as your chain isn't all stretched out, you should be fine
