I've never owned one, but I always thought it was generally agreed upon that Honda's were the best built.

What kind of kawasaki does your brother have? is it the same kind of bike, because if you're compairing the build quality of a GS500 to a zx6r or a zx10r, I can tell you where your problem is. If he's riding an ex500 and it's still built a lot better than your GS, then that's a fair compairison.

As long as it's japanese I'm plenty happy with the build quality, and am not looking to split hairs.

I've ridden a 20 year old Yamaha that had no problems, a new kawasaki ex250 with no real problems, but the cheap parts wore out before the inspection was even due next year, and a new triumph, which I'm not even going to start on. I think all 4 of the main japanese companies are pretty consistant when it comes to quality, but I do really like some Kawasakis, specifically the z1000, I unfortunately happen to think that all of the Ninja's are god awful ugly, although I'd still ride one without giving it a second though. Now the zx-7r, that bike is a work of art, and something I would consider one of the best looking sportbikes ever built.

if you're looking for a commuter bike, why would you move up to a bigger bike when the GS is cheaper to maintain and has better MPG than a bigger bike?  there's nothing better than a GS when it just comes to getting from point A to point B cheaply with plenty of zip.

Is there a smiley for a "Thread going out of control"?  We might as well get the Ford vs. Chevy thing going too.

Exactly my thoughts. He says it's "just a tool" to get from A to B, and if that's the case he's very contradictory about it.

Maybe he's the tool.

I don't ride on winding roads, my bike isn't really for pleasure...It's a tool to get me to work, and to school. I've riden through the twisties and it's not fun imo. It's only fun when you know the next turn isn't going to have sand or gravel so you can really lean the bike.

wait, what? even with a turn with sand or gravel twisties are still fun, you just need to know how far you can push your bike. and i'm not just talking about the gs, any bike for that matter.

just saying...  ;)

cheers,

I'm comparing my bike to his 2002 Ninja 250..

Yes I'm looking for a commuter and I'm also looking for something I'm not embarrassed riding. I'm also looking for a bike that has fuel injection as the GS is a pain in the winter.

Now to the better quality, when I'm working on my bike (first owner, bought it new) different screws will be used, wrong sizes, or couple washers missing here. And the wiring of the Gs500f? lol it was insane when we did the valve check. Oh and I love my factory back brake, comes with freee squeek!!!!

Buy a Civic, maybe Renhen will let you borrow his exhaust
Yeah F that. You can't has my beautiful pipe. Why would you want mine anyway, you can get like six of them on Ebay for $20 lol. Nope, only exhaust I have ever really cared for on a Civic (even a B16 as someone said they had[on a sidenote, GReddy makes terrible pipes for hondas]) is HKS. I had an HKS pipe on my supra too and it was like an eargasm every time i cranked it up. Now I want an HKS pipe for my bike . . . . ok when i get that you can have the one thats on it now  :thumb:

No one is going to change his mind. It was made up even before he posted this. BTW how on Earth can you be embarrased to ride a motorcycle any MC for that matter? I have only had one person 'dis my Flick but I then made them eat their words with two things 1) Well, if you want a bike where there are three exactly like it in a meet with 12 bikes that's cool 2) when I carved their big slow arse in the curves and beat them to the destination. I have a pic of Flick on my cell and I show everybody my baby and mostly I get "That's a cool bike"

Brutally honest here: I think your thinking with the wrong head.

BTW was it synthetic oil or regular oil? And Gas 93 Octane is best right? (Running out of this thread with head ducked)

If you think the valve check was bad on teh GS, do a sparkplug change on a second generation R6.

MUUUUUUUUUUUUUURDER is all you can think of throughout the whole fuqqing thing!!!!!  OMFG!

You know Skeet you have definately proven that you are not mature enough for a bigger bike. I really can't believe I got in a tit for tat match with you. I really posted the first post out of concern for you. But you cannot take constructive criticism without getting fully frustrated and defensive. To me that is a huge indicator that you have not reached the maturity level of a competent adult. By your own admission you've stated that you are embarassed to ride a bike that you have destroyed. Are you embarassed because when people ask you "what  happened?" that you have to admit your impotence?

Sadly, I have scrapped up too many young men like you off of Interstate-4 and to be honest it sticks with me. I remember one time the guy your age sandy red hair or at least I think that was the color, there was so much blood from his head wound (yup had a helmet on) that it might have been dyed that way from the blood. But his hip well that is where he slid you could see about two inches of jeans, followed by about six inches of blood, then about eight inches of white. Can you guess what that was? When I got his helmet off and was asking him questions I found out he had just gotten that brand new smashed up gixxer 600 that day and was hot dogging it but he hit a tar snake. That is all it took one moment of "lets see what this new bad boy can do" to cause this 19 year old months and months of hospitalizations, surgeries, and probably years of physical therapy. Not to mention the repercussions of his head injury.

I will pray for you young man because you will need it. I also pray you never go faster than your gaurdian angel can fly. I hope what I have said has some iota of impression on you. I will not banter with you. But, you started it by telling me to go back to the kitchen. Walk a mile in my shoes and you will have a different attitude about how precious life is.

Be safe in whatever road you take. I hope my grammar was suitable to you I only have a college degree so I may be a bit behind you.
