Nope don't want another bike until next summer. I'm getting a Chevy Cavalier from some old grandma. My big brother is giving me his Ducati next summer.

I'm not going to be putting the car in my name as I will be an occasional driver.

wow. Good luck with the insurance on that. I think you should have stuck with the little pink one. You better at least put some frame sliders on that thing so when you go throwin it around it will only hurt you so bad. Can't say the training wheels would be a bad idea either . . . . .

Try dropping down to 4 Oreos and set your pilot screw 3 turns out.

As I said, the insurance isn't going in my name.

good luck with that.  insurance company isn't going to want to pay that out at all, especially considering your recent accident.

I've only ever had one accident that was claimed on my insurance.

if YOU don't have insurance, how do you expect to ride? you'll have to be covered regardless unless you plan on riding with no insurance/illegally??? even if your dad insures the bike in his name, he'd have to spend the exta $$ to cover you as a rider on it as well. (or whoever insures the bike)

bottom line is you're not getting out of paying for insurance for yourself on any bike you ride - insurance companies aren't stupid. and they have attorneys on retainer that doing nothing but make sure people like yourselves do not pull one over on them.  you're not going to outsmart them - sorry.

I don't know but my dad called his insurance company about a car were about to purchase. He's going to buy the car in his name and get insurance for it. I don't live with him and I'm only going to be an occasional driver. They OK'd this and agreed as long as you don't live in the household it's fine.

GF.

well, if thats the line you're taking, if the person that you are involved in the accident with wants to sue then they can sue YOU individually since you don't have insurance and then you are SOL.  you'll be paying those medical bills off forever.  like I said good luck.

If you own a car you're allowed to give other people permission to drive it, and it still be covered under your insurance. Skeets is right. It all depends on how often he's planning on driving it. I'm sure the insurance company has small print that says an occasional driver is only allowed to drive the car so many times a month or something like that, but still. I don't know that motorcycles work that way though.

I've been trying to explain this in the last couple posts. But yeah, an occasional driver (according to the agent) is someone who doesn't reside in your household, and uses the vehicle less than 3 times a week.

Well, I won't be needing the car throughout the week luckily. Only on the weekends.

i'm sure there is a clause. example:
when my wife and i first got together, i did not have a car, thus, no car insurance. i was not allowed to drive my mother-in-laws car(even occassionally) because i'm a male and at the time, under the age of 25. her insurance company had a clause stating that no male drivers under the age of 25 were allowed. meaning that if i did drive the car, and was in an accident, no matter who was technically at fault, i would be considered at fault because i would have been an "illegal driver." i'm sure it varies between insurance companies. and i wouldn't be so sure about not being able to be sued because you're under 18...even if they can't technically sue you, i'm sure they could sue your guardian.

carinsurance.com states the the rule of thumb is that you drive it no more than once a week, but that is with a car.  i wouldn't be surprised if that did not exist with motorcycles considering their higher rate of fatalities.

when i took my demo ride a few weeks ago, they required us to not only have our endorsement, but insurance as well. (they told me auto insurance was fine, as long as it was "insurance") however, i'm sure there are special circumstances surrounding demo rides.

I'm talking with Henrys Insurance...I'm just relaying what I was told. In any case they can't prove how many times you drive the car unless they stalk you..which then  :police: :police: :police:.

Can anyone answer a question for me?

What does it usually take for insurance companies to total a bike? I would really really appreciate it!

A repair value at or greater than the market value of the motorcycle. Just like a car.

So they give you market value for your bike and not kbb? How much would a 2007 gs500f be with $300 in mods. I was thinking they'd give me about $2500 for it.

I'm just trying to figure out if they'll total it. The whole right side needs replacement, and left side was messed up. Engine covers are off, and handlebars are bent. Blinker broken, Front cowl broken.

Forks and frame looked fine though.
