has anyone done it? How similar is the front end to the Katana?

average

R.I.P
Rich(Phadreus)
90 gs5 04 Fairings(that's right)
LP flushmounts up front  shortened turn signals
Kanatuna rear wheel swap
Kat FE

Worse than an 89-96 kat. Same diameter legs, worse brakes and if I remember no drain bolt on the bottom.
Cool.

I guess it would be an improvement over the stock GS but I'm not that impressed with the stock suspension on my SV.  Never rode a Katana so I can't compare the 2.

Kat one sucks on a kat too ... they have fitted these bikes with d1cks that just stay short of their bellies. So no one knows you have one. On a budget, get a d1ck from the next size up.
Cool.

Wow, I never quite looked at it in those terms.   :D
My 90 GS500E has spread itself across the nation.

Get forks with anti-dive. anti-dive is your friend, and it's addictive as hell.

somehow, my bike has been fitted with honda hurricane forks. they rock. anti-dive, dual front disc, good fork rate, air adjustment. no bound and rebound mind you, but ive never had dive problems or crazy flaccid handling issues.

not mine, but a good picture. i think i have a kat front fender on  the wheel too.

Bored to 79mm, Honda Hurricane forks, Lowered 1.25" front and rear. Shinko Podium 006 120/60 front, 140/60 rear. Lunchbox, Fart can, 42.5 pilot, 3.5 turns, 152.5 main and 2 washers. Everything else is either stock or broken.

After fitting straight rate springs, I haven't found dive to be a problem.  Of course, I've never tried anti-dive forks, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing.  It seems like when you're braking heavily is exactly the time you don't need your suspension stiffening up.

Im with chuck on antidive, it came and went quite a while ago as did 16 front wheels.  Those in the picture are probably better though than GS OEM

Well, here's the deal... I have an sv650 that's about to get a gixxer front end. So the forks are free, and if it's not too hard to do, it gives me dual disk.

Knock yourself out.

I suspect the upper is a 30mm bearing on the SV. You should make a stem that takes 25 pupper, and has 25 lock nut threads with 1.0 pitch and your'e all set. Like basically GS copy between the upper and lower triples, and a spacer sleeve and upper triple of the SV.

If its a naked you can fit the SV spec acewell on it. If its the fairinged SV that too will be hard.

Cool.
