Calling on any carb goo-roos! (Yes, I know I spelled it incorrectly.)

I still cannot get it to start on it's own. I have to cover the intake of the carbs  enough to get suction which then pulls fuel from the float bowls. I tested the float bowls and both level out correctly. I turned the air / fuel mixture screws 1/2 turn on each for a total fo 2 1/2 turns. I went ahead and placed 2 washers under each clip on each needle. (not sure that's going to help anything) mainly trying to see if I can get more fuel to the carbs without my intervention.

Those adjustments seemed to help because now I can get it to start and actually give it a slight amount of throttle before is acts like it is either flooded or dry. (Maybe 2 - 3 seconds.)

I initially thought I might not be getting enough spark and so I trimmed both plug wires and re-seated them which also may have helped.

Has anyone that has removed their stock air box and muffler (pipe still on) had success with getting it to start and run? Or did you have to do anything special? It is looking like I am going to have to pull the carbs apart again........ >:(

Thanks,
CB

Sure you do, but I am wondering if anyone else had a similar problem and what they may have found to fix it.

I can get this one to "run" but not for a long period of time. What degree of crappiness should I expect? Should I be able to get it to start by itself and idle terrible or am I getting what is normal?

Thanks
CB

Start and idle OK, but start acting dry and raspy upon being revved, and really lacking power when trying to ride it.

I found a post link where someone else had a similar problem as me. (April 2008) i think. Anyway, there was a reference to an o-ring that should be just under the black cap at the vacuum test port. Neither of mine have that. Does anyone know what size those o-rings are? (#26 in the carb fiche.)

Thanks,

Older carbs should have this O-ring, newer don't have it, they have only a nipple covered by vacuum cup.

Losing this cup on my bike (newer model), it won't start easily. I assume that a missing o-ring on older models would mean the same thing.

(The suction from the motor would be the same, but now the are two pathways to suck air from. The butterfly and the not-air-tight missing o-ring thingy)

Cboling - I will add in that pair and send you ... see one of the benifits of being a lazy ass ... sorry getting fired disrupted my rhythm for today. Had to make a 90 mile 1 way run upon being fired to get into my old office and get some sheite back and hand over ... blah blah ... sorry.

That sucks! Hope everything works out for you. Thanks for the offer on the o-rings. I worked on it a little today and I had some small o-rings that I put in place but not sure they are thick enough. I adjusted the air mixture screws all the way in then 1/2 turn out, then 1 turn, then 1 1/2 turn, then 2. It seems to be a little closer to starting and idling but won't stay running. I took a short video with my cell phone but it's crappy. Not sure it would help anything anyway.

I'll keep reading and testing and what not.

Try 3-5 turns. You need 3 as a starting point with any jet kit. That thing is so sensitive to that air screw.
