Hello, great informative forum you got here. Well, I just got my new project delivered. This'll be my first bike so I'm hoping for a good experience.

05 suzuki gs500f, 3700 miles, $800, Clean Title. Things that need fixin' so far: bent handle bar, popped peg, tightening of the front brake lines, brake lever replacement. Should be all pretty easy fixes hopefully.

I'll remove the fairings to convert it into the Streetfighter look.

Got any hints/ideas for me? Hoping to learn from you fellas.
Thanks,
Ed

ohgood

that front disk looks burned/done, the front wheel weights (i guess) look like they've been maligned, the chain really wants a good soaking in oil, and you'll want to figure out what that rogue wire goes to...

congrats on your project. see the wiki, it has nice hints for common questions.

check your tire pressures regular, check your wheels for cracks, it's been down at some speed, so things might be odd for a while.

:) welcome

thanks. that wire was for the custom turn signals. so you'd suggest replacing the front disk?

Front disc looks just fine to me.  If there are no gouges in it's just fine.

thanks for the offer, but I actually just fixed my right peg in the last 30 mins.  :)

Cut the middle off the left fairing and it almost looks like a top and chin fairing.

$800! damn, good deal. Yeah, just toss the plastics out, and sell  what's still in good shape, you should be able to buy a new headlight, or come up with an ok looking way to mount the one you already have, get some dirtbike bars, some bar end mirrors. That random wire looks like it just goes to the turn signals. If you decide you want to upgrade/modernize your pegs at all(I know you already fixed them) you can get some nicer looking gsxr aluminum pegs on ebay for $17 or so, check the wiki for that one. That cover on the right side of the engine that has a hole worn in it doesn't have any oil/pressure behind it, so just cut a round thin piece of metal and just glue it on there. You'll be in business in no time.

Skeets

That bike has the same ebay mirrors as mine!

nice find! sounds like a good deal. i am really fond of the flush mounted signals. are those the regular ones everyone around here links me to cause they seem to look different than the ones i usually see?

no idea friend. this is how she arrived today.

Nice deal.  My wife has an 05 in the same color.  $800 for that is a steal.  Only mior damage that can be fixed in a weekend for not a lot of money.  You did really well on that.

Yeah, those levers even have the mounts already if you just wanted to switch to normal mirros. I'd say for the time being just use a coping saw and a file and smooth out the bottom of the fairing so it looks like a Suzuki SV650S or an FZ6. That'll get you riding until you track down a nice headlight you like, because if you rush it you'll go on ebay and end up buying one of these....

Don't do that.

thanks for the comments. great group of ppl here I can tell already.  erbilabuc,  I'm loving that look, I might just steal it.

tt_four

Yeah, it looks cool like that, and then someday when you're ready to try adn learn some fiberglassing you can make a nice mini fairing just to blend it into the front end a little better.

Ed500

I guess I never posted any updates. well here they are for anybody that cares:
