Need ideas for mounting a streetfighter light!

So, I'm slowly turning my bike (GS500F) into a streetfighter style beast! haha. I was looking at a couple different headlight setups, but I'm not sure what to get. I really like the Dominator dual lights, and also a fat 7" light would look sweet... But I want to do something a little different, without getting an Acerbis style light.

I was looking at something like this...

Only problem is, I'm not sure how I would mount it on the bike. There a few holes on the bottom, where I would be able to bolt it on...

But I'm open to any ideas. Thanks!

I don't know how well that light would light up the road. I like the Aztec 8 and Dominator Dual Headlights.

Dominator

I love this Ducati

I do really like those Aztec 8 lights... I also LOVE the Dominators, but I feel like I see them on so many bikes, and I want to do something at least a little different.

As for the light I was thinking, I know they run on H3 bulbs. But, I was browsing ebay, as always, and I see that you can get H3 bulbs in a 100W output. 2 of those would be bright enough, right?

I don't think our charging system can handle 200W's of light. I'd try H3 HID's before going with 100W bulbs.

It's hard to tell without actually going down to look at my bike, but you could probably drill some small holes in your bottom triple, and bolt it straight on. Otherwise just get some of those brackets that clamp onto your fork tubes, and then if you make a bracket the headlight will bolt to, you could mount that straight onto the fork clamps

yep just drill some holes into your lower triple tree. I would drill and tap if I was you just to make it cleaner looking.

That sounds like it will work out nicely. I thought that was probably going to be my best option, but I wanted to post and see what you guys thought. Thanks for the input! I'll post pics for whatever route I go.

Oh, and just for reference, those aren't aztec 8 headlights, they're just the stock Triumph headlights, and they have some stupid frame mounted bracket they attach to, so I'm not really even sure if you could make them fit on another bike.

JEREMY JOCK

Thanks man. I did see the actual Aztec lights though. I like them, but I don't think they'd look great on my GS. I'll probably go with the single 7" light or the ET one I posted.

The aztec 8 website is selling some kind of naked bike spacers with the kit for dual headlight kit. Is it necessary to buy these spacers with the kit for a GS500?

I'm liking this headlight.  A lot smaller and sleeker than the dual headlights, and I think the light output would be sufficient with a drop in HID kit.

thinking I might throw this on my current project :icon_idea: :icon_idea: :icon_idea:

I'd be very surprised if it throws a half-decent pattern. On-road headlights are not the place to be trusting your life to chinese plastic molders and their idea of quality. Either no useful light on road, too much light in oncoming drivers eyes so they are blinded and drive into you, or both, with that weird shaped reflector and lens.

Hey, look, somone tried it. Results as expected:

As for mounting, isn't the "streetfighter" ethos that you kinda bung it on there as crudely as possible - perhaps some muffler clamps around the fork tubes clamping a hunk of scrap metal between them to screw the light to, with an ethereal blend of rust, sharp edges and flat black paint (mixed with some blood due to the sharp edges?) Or just weld it right to the fork tubes, since only pansies actually take the fork tubes out for maintenance? A less damaging but perfectly effective technique would use some inner tube rubber to isolate vibration a little and prevent scarring the tubes, 4 hose clamps (stainless steel screw type) and a hunk of metal with "legs" for the hose clamps to clamp to the fork tubes (with the rubber between.)

What I'd like to find is a round headlight larger than 7 inches - like a 10 or 12 (250-300mm). But I ain't making no streetfighter.

somewhere i saw just flat horizontal headlight, like 7 inches wide, 2 inches tall, kinda like the light with the bolt on holes. Itd be sweet and differant to turn that vertical and get two of them to go vertical. but now you talkin more bank. and dont know about lightin the road. but two verts [ [  would look mean or maybe liike this \ /

You can't turn a headlight sideways. The high beam/low beam would turn into the "this side, that side" and the things would blind oncoming drivers either way, while providing no useful light on road. There's a good deal of engineering in a properly built headlight. If you want a "look" for a concept/show bike, do whatever, but if you take that thing on the road, expect to die.

I'm already regretting posting this, but what the hell.  I've seen the above halogen headlight used on one of the choppers made on "American Choppers", and actually them riding it at night during the episode.  It was extremely bright.  Now, the one you pictured above could very well be a knockoff of a higher quality unit.  I do agree w DoD#i .......you don't wanna get cheap with headlights for safety reasons, so do your research and remember....you get what you pay for.  Might need to spend a little more to get a good quality product.

and not every streetfighter has to be crudely put together.  you should check out some of the builds over at customfighters.com.   Some of those custom bikes are incredibly clean

gregvhen

Im trying to figure out why you guys think that i meant just jerry rig somethin together thats cheap or whatever, or why you think im talkin about a knock off just cause its a differant shape. i was just talkin about a rectangular light instead of the ovaly one you picuted. and so now somehow its a knock off? theres hundreds of differant shapes of lights out there just so you know. and i said turned sideways would look cool. never said it would light well, in fact i even said that i know it wouldnt.  Just sayin itd look sweet, just like many streetfighter bikes out there, look sweet but not used on roads.

Greg, if you're going to hop in on a tangent, learn to read well enough to figure out which comments have anything to do with your post (or stop drunk posting, whichever of those applies to you) before you make whiny posts. Neither the "crude mount" nor the "cheap knockoff" have anything to do with your post. Not turning headlights sideways if using them on the road has to do with your post. Everything else is about other stuff in the thread. It's not all about you.

Kappa - yes, some builds are nicely done. Too many look like the intersection of duct tape and chewing gum, though  :icon_twisted: I was tarring with a brush a bit too wide (but I also suggested a perfectly workable and, if carefully done, presentable mount option that does not require a machine shop to pull off).

Whatever, either way heres a sweet streetighter with a headlight that ive only seen on this particular bike. Dont know what its called, but in the info he says it only cost him $80.  Hes got a clip of it running at night too, high and low, seems pretty bright to me.

HAHAHAHA.    thinkin you posted the wrong video gregvhen.  Don't think there's any streetfighter bikes in Rick Astleys "Never gonna give you up" music video.

Remember... always double check your links when posting Sometimes the previous thing you Copied stays on the clipboard while the next thing doesn't. As I think happened here.

Oh yeah... the background dancer girl couldn't get the dance steps right. Watch her carefully.
