I put 500 miles on my new (9200 mile) 2004. ealer changed oil I think based on it was so clear.

I changed oil at 9700, and when I got filter out, the metal inside engine is clear clean gray aluminium.

There are dirt deposits laying low wherever its flat or the oil otherwise just sits. I sprayed out some with cleaner and it flowed right away.

This is not baked on, its loose powdery stuff settled in by gravity.

Does anyone think this will rise up and get trapped by new filter and I have no worries? There was a fair amount, enough to see everywhere.

I wouldn't worry about it, but that's just my opinion.

The way I look at it, even relatively clean motorcycle oil is full of lots of crud...carbon, clutch fibers, pieces of aluminum, pieces of steel, water...the list goes on and on.  If it's just tiny loose pieces of clutch material and engine crud it'll probably make its way back to the filter on its own.  As long as it's not enough of a mess to block the oil pickup, or turning into a sticky mess I can't imagine it hurting anything.

Besides, oil is going to settle in lots of places you can't see so you can't clean it all out anyway.  That's just my 2 cents.  Then again I have 3k miles and 6 track days on the same oil so take it for what it's worth.

Where's gsjack?  He probably knows more about changing motorcycle oil than anyone else on earth.  He'll have the right answer!

I agree, as long as it isnt thick, I wouldn't worry too much about it

Spraying stuff in the engine sounds like a bad idea. Let the oil and filter do their jobs.

Btw, gas and oil additives do northing but lighten your wallet, so just ride and enjoy. :)
