If you don't already know, I live in south Florida.   I friend of mine who became unemployed this year took off on his bike back in May.   We heard through the grapevine that he had gone to different places on his bike (a BMW, not a GS, sorry):   all over north Georgia, up into Kentucky, Cumberland Gap, parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Connecticut, Long Island...staying at campgrounds most of the way.

So...my phone rings out of the blue tonight...he's now in St. Stephens, New Brunswick!   He was in Maine for the last couple of weeks and decided he needed to cross the border into Canada.   He's put over 8,000 miles on his bike since May!

He's done most of the trip solo, and tonight is his first night in a hotel in a long time.  He's mostly been sleeping in a tent.

Heck, I'm tempted to saddle up and go on my own trip.    I can call my employer in the morning and tell them I have important business to tend to, right?
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

I would love to do something like that.

A friend of my dad bought a goldwing and rode from texas to alaska and back last summer.

Hmm...  I lost my job back in May... I should have gone on a long road trip.

my parents used to own a tourist trap restaurant, store and hotel in saint stephen nb...there is no "s" at the end.   it is a great little town on the bay of fundy.  the bay has the highest tides in the world ranging 40 to 70 feet twice a day. also st stephen has the ganong chocolate factory which is the oldest in the america's.   where in south florida are you? i am in the tampa area, new port richey to be exact. i guess that is the bay area.

you have a six hour ferry ride to get to newfoundland depending on the weather and sea state.  if you have been to nova scotia or cape breton then that is pretty much newfound land. except newfies are poor, speak a language which is like very drunk welsh and there is nothing to do but hunt and fish.  the weather is always unpredictable and NEVER hot.  in the middle of summer expect fog and 15c or 65f or less in the am.  snow is not unheard of in june or sept.  july and aug are the  only "safe" months for a bike. but the cold wind and fog makes it very cold and uncomfortable.
