Awesome job of passing the bike on to your son. My dad gave me my first bike as well. It was a 1983 Yamaha xt550. It was huge and pretty intimidating when I was 17, but it was old, beat up, and topped out at 80mph, so I dropped it plenty of times, but also managed to stay alive pretty easily.

I ended up passing it on to my cousin for $200 a year later. I wish I would've kept it and just put street tires on it, but oh well.

Holly Rocks Batman you averaged 42 miles a day? How many tires did you wear out?

Check my math:

46,000 miles / 3 = 15,333 miles

15,333 / 365 = 42 miles! ( a day)

Must have a long commute to work?

actually that is not quite right because i rode the bike much less the first year.  i have been averaging 20k per year for the last year and a half.  i got 18k out of the stock front tire but replaced the back at 8k from a puncture.  i got 14k out of a maxxis rear after that and 18 k out of an avon roadrider front.  i replaced both tires at 36300 with irc rx-01.  they seem to be holding up pretty well.  24k since the last valve inspection.  probably time.

Not fair considering he's in California. I put 22k in the year and a half I had my last bike, but it also is around 10 degrees for the worst month of winter.
